Plenty of blame to go around

A road in the SEC is a road win in the SEC. I will never take a road win in the SEC for granted.

Except Vandy. 'cause Vandy is funny. All cute with their little touchdown horn and free football tickets and everything. Toooooooot! You go, Vandy, you adorable little program, you.

Jeremy banks cost us thirty yards for two useless penalties. I am all for second chances but he needs to be gone before he cost us a game. He needs to seek some psychological help before his life in completely ruined
Lol stfu, the late hit penalty was weak he barely touched the guy. The guy tripped over the initial tackler. Also, none of his penalties resulted in touchdowns on the drives.... so.... again stfu.

We played a bad team that will battle Vandy for last place in the East. There is plenty of concern especially at Qb. We should of had this game in hand by the end of the first half.
The aggies only scored 17 on Vandy lol. Arkansas held the lead over UGA for 3 qtrs, and the Pirate upset the defending champs. Relax. I understand your concern, but if the first round of SEC games has proven anything, it's that it's nothing but a giant clusterf@@#ck

You degrade poor performances against poor teams like USCjr untl you see an inspiring win like on against UF, UGA, Alabama, etc....because that is who you are aspiring to be in the conversation with....not USCjrs....
It’s game one dude. On the road, with starters missing. We won. We got better last year every single game sans the first 2. I’m not going to respond anymore to this nonsense after a WIN!
who cares how others looked, we will get better as we go, same as last year
edit: Georgia was losing for three quarters. They won big LATE so DOnt even include them in your next rant

OP starts off with "plenty of blame to go around" then DUMPS on one player.. dumb..

It's the first game of the year. Some look lost, some look to emotional so team looks sloppy. We won! On to next week..

Banks needs to temper his game a bit, but he definitely needs to be on the field..
Agree on all fronts. A lot of folks are forgetting this team cancelled a number of practices and had a ton of players miss practice due to quarantine. Looked good at times. Looked bad a times. After many years of losing games like this, they are learning how to win them. On to Missouri.

I blame it on the Covid Syndrome, limited practice, thus less attention to detail(discipline), etc, etc. saw a lot of potential. Oline melds and defense becomes consistent, we'll be tough. Take it over last season opener any time.

Banks played his ass off. Wouldn't trade him for anyone.

Yep played hard the penalties have to stop and you heard it here first. Alontae Taylor will get a personal foul before the season is over . Ppl in Birmingham watch these games and take names & numbers. Refs have meetings to make sure the game is controlled. He cant keep standing over players and talking crap after plays. He is too good of player to get that rep branded. Just let your play talk like H Toto

Used to think the same. I’m 43 now. A wins a win. Nothing to take from this, besides the win. Not sure how folks like you live through a whole season constantly degrading wins

Exactly, 2-3 years ago we would have lost this game. There is sloppy play all over college football and there will be plenty of losses to complain about by the end of the season

And led us to a 4th quarter game winning drive.

Why do we have to "blame" anyone? Opening game win, in conference, on the road in a tough environment. Good win.
None of these road games are tough environment that's a coach talking point that just does not apply this year. No way Miss State beats LSU if it was a packed stadium. Which makes you go to silent count. The Home field advantage is a misnomer this year.

We’re at last season’s Mississippi State game level...first game...with practically no off-season. Praise to the coaches and S&C staff.

Disagree. Road games take you out of your normal home environment. Granted the stadium isn't full but there's still a lot of anti-Vol yelling going on. You'd rather play at home than on the road anytime and always.

I'll take a win.....why tho are we so excited by sqeaking by low end SEC teams....SC probably wont win 3 games.......CJP didn't have the team ready, didnt adjust to Shi Smith on defense....JG played decent, missed alot, but made some plays....he has been inconsistent since high school...hasnt improved...but he is what he is..... we got lucky at the end of the game...i honestly saw shades of a smith slant for a winning SC TD....

At some point 4 point win against SC isnt enough.....mediocrity is not the goal...we are not Vandy...we are UT....we should expect better..

Yeah but even Vegas is taking the normal minus 3 off the table. These guys sans the Freshmen are used to travel and the nuances that goes with it. The one outlier is in a close game with packed stadium and you cant communicate then thats tough. Where we played last night was not tough by a long shot.

The real story of this season will be how much improvement we see between game 1 and game 2.

I have to keep reminding myself that we just watched the FIRST game back from the strangest off-season ever, and it was on the road against an SEC opponent. No “warm-up” games against a couple of FCS opponents (Of course, we all remember last season’s debacle).

The dumb penalties must stop. We MUST learn to put opponents away instead of letting them hang around. Defensively, our pass coverage was shaky. The play-calling down the stretch was questionable (did we forget how to run the ball?) . . . And our tradition of making freshman and back-up QBs for the other team look like heroes continues - although not quite as egregious as year’s past.

Overall, a lot to work on. Need to get it done.
