Beautiful thread. Beautiful. Everybody acts like they are disappointed but just about all of those people predicted us to be 5-7 to 7-5 at best.

I really want for Butch to do well at UT. I see strides made on defense, but I see cause for concern on the offense; OL in particular. I believe Butch made a very poor decision in not keeping Sam Pittman.

Aside from Robertson, all of the guys getting appreciable playing time have been coached for two full years under Mahoney. That is half of their college eligibility and I see no evidence of coaching up the talent. With Pair's size, age and experience in the system, could he not have been coached up to beat Coleman Thomas when CT was playing? CT was really bad, and two years under Mahoney has not prepared Pair to see the field outside of warm ups or mop up duty.

After Dooley, no coach is going to underachieve and not be criticized for it. That comes with the territory.

I have seen a lot of "stuff" since moving to Knoxville in 1991. The whole Majors/ Fulmer debacle, that probably cost us a chance to have on of the best seasons ever. That team was just playing so good under Fulmer and then Johnny came marching home again and the season went to crap.
Lots of good years under Fulmer, probably the best run since Neyland, but the that blew up in 2008 and it's been a roller coaster ride ever since. Lane came for a cup of coffee and then Doofus drug us through the mud and got his 5 mil to leave. It has just been like a long walk in the proverbial jungle for six years.
Butch has a plan. He is working the plan. Next year, I honestly think we will that plan truly unfold. He has the system, the qb, the recruits coming in to give us the depth we need, that we haven't had in years. Hold on to your hats, it's about to happen.:pepper:

As far as your comment on Coach Majors, it's hard to be an effective coach when your OC is stabbing you in the back, purposely wrecking your offense and threatening to leave for another job unless you are fired all while he's making over 60 phone calls to renegotiate his mortgage.

Not to nitpick, I agree with most of what the OP says, but two things. These coaches knew that our O-line was going to disappear. You can't solve that with one recruiting class but you better make damn sure you bring in enough guys to cover your ass. One juco prospect is laughable. Any juco prospect is going to be better than a few true freshmen. This is a major strike. Another major strike, not realizing your offense is completely unbalanced with a decent QB who can throw but can't run a "zone-read-running qb offense" until your season is all but over. If you buy the "dobbs was terrible in practice" bologna you're absolutely nuts. Hell even Jancek said he "shredded" the D in practice.

I saw several 4-8 types. It's so funny that we predicted this record and now ppl are unhappy to the point of calling out the coaches.

I expected to be in this exact position. We have played several really good teams close with possibly the most underachieving OLine in UT history and we still are in a really REALLY good shot at going bowling for the first time in years.

It's just typical for this fanbase and every fanbase. Some ppl are impossible to please. I bet if we were 8-3 at this point, there would still be a group complaining about the 3 and wondering why Butch couldn't get it done.

I Love my Vols and am behind them 100%!

GO VOLS, let's go BOWLING

The fact is we are better then Mizzou and shouldn't be losing to them. Ever.

Incorrect. Mizzou isn't that weak big 12 school we think of. Just because they have been worse, they aren't now. Their whole DL will end up on an NFL roster. And our OL better be majoring in something worth something

You are wrong. Mizzou shouldn't be able to come into Neyland on senior night and win. We have better talent or equal talent at most positions. Thy lost 34-0 to UGA. There is no excuse to lose to those SEC wannabes

Totally agree with OP. If anyone doesn't think that CBJ is the right man for the job I invite you to go watch one of his post game press conferences or the Butch Jones show. Then go to YouTube and pull a Dooley press conference or watch the (lol) Derek Dooley Show. You'll see.

He has showed he can recruit with the best of them. He has showed next to nothing he can coach well enough to win National championships. Can't beat UF, UGA, UA, Mizzou.

ok....just for sport; please tell us with the last 2 years' rosters, schedule and identical circumstances who would have beaten them all?

UF this year is sorta inexcusable, even to me, but we've never had a coach that can consistently beat that team....why? I honestly don't know...but it's gotta be more than x's and o's.

...and please don't throw the Dobbs flag...love the kid and what he did at SCAR and UK...but he wasn't stellar last weekend, so there is NO way you can honestly say he'd be spectacular every single game.

I'm talkin about this year. Should have beaten both UF and Mizzou and OU

Everybody should have their say, and let's rest assured people are going to state their case, regardless of how incessantly annoying their diatribes of discontent make everyone else want to vomit. The term is "dysteptic." You know the person. It's that sister-in-law who shows up whining about the drive down from Frontenac (or wherever), then the weather, then her husband's breath, then.......And then there's the big mouth homunculus whose subjectivity constantly labels every call at the game outrageously biased, who then brags about their car and Mongolian-looking kids and Jabba-the-Hut wife, then.......Get it? Anybody can say whatever they want, but dysteptic individuals, such as whiners on this site, are immediately recognized by their avatars as "Oh, it's that moron. Get on here to post back and forth about football, and, lo and behold, my sister-in-law's posting. Everybody's got a right to be excessively annoying. Too bad you (and you know who you are) are excessively annoying, and now I'm expecting my shell-shocked brother-in-law and aforementioned sister-in-law at any moment. Happy Thanksgiving...Everybody.

How is it a fact that we are better than them? If they beat Arkansas they will win the east for the second year in a row. They are a good team. Yes we have higher recruiting rankings but Pinkel has been at Mizzou for a very long time and he hand picks under the radar guys and grooms them so when they are starting as RS Juniors and Seniors they are very good. You cant really expect to beat them starting 7 true freshman.

I love this site, I come here nearly every day but damn sometimes you make it hard on me. We lost a game toa top 25 opponent, stop crying. Being a realist does not mean accepting the current state of affairs in the program. It simply mean that I, and other like me, take the situation for what it is and realize that making up the ground we've lost since 07 isn't an overnight job.

I've never seen a more ungrateful and whiny bunch than those that have complained, non-stop, about Butch Jones and the job he's doing. I guess back to back top 10 classes isn't good enough, or back to back wins over South Carolina? Hell in both years he's put this team in a position to get bowl eligible and if not for a bad break here and there we'd have achieved it already in both seasons. But oh no we can't ever look at the positive can we? We can't comprehend that losing your ENTIRE NFL quality offensive line and replacing them with walk ons and freshmen might cause your offense to be inconsistent. Nope reality doesn't matter here!

Listen, this team is heading in the right direction, whether you want to believe that or not. We are loading up on linemen and skill players with these classes, the talent gap is closing quickly and that much is apparent in the level of competition on the field. I know y'all are frustrated but trust me, I'm no sunshine pumper, I'm a realist and for the first time in many years I'm excited about the future and you should be too, so please stop it.

Problem is '07 was seven years ago. UT has never been down this long!

I lost my mind a bit during the Mizzou game. I wasn't happy with letting the clock run out at the half. Still don't like the decision there, but it wasn't nearly as bad as my reaction to it. The last 5 years have just really piled on. I still love the direction of the program. The young players look great. Future is bright. Lets hope.

Those "wannabes" are about to go to their second straight sec championship. Get it out of your mind that they are a weak big 12 school. They aren't. That's just your perception and you don't want to see that they are about to win the east two years in a row. It is what it is. Give credit where credit is due. They find ways to win.

I continue to be amazed by people on either side that want to come to a DISUSSION BOARD and have ervery thread agree with them. I rememeber the good ole days of discussion. The only thing thats changed is not the amount of positve vs negative threads( they have always been here), its society and the net as a whole. People hiding behind their keyboard being rude asses to every poster who does not think like them. When in real life they wouldnt dare talk like that to a real person.

I am beginning to understand how dictators come to power with so many peoples attitude of fall in line or else.

You know what... You make some good points. On second I'm no longer pissed we lost those games and upset with Jones for not having the courage to try to win them.

Jk! I'll always be dissapointed when we lose a winable game at home based on poor coaching decisions. Sorry
