Please replace Max Gilbert

How about the Georgia game? We would be in the playoffs if it wasn’t for him.
We would also be in hte playoffs if it weren't for a myriad of other things that were crap that game. Namely a defense that gave up so many points, we needed a game winning FG. And, we had the same OT chances UGA did. Who lost the 2nd game that night? (OT)

Gilbert has looked fine to me. The missed kick against Georgia was rough. But he has otherwise been very solid for us.
Agreed. And I think Heupel's mismanagement of that whole situation is the bigger issue. Should have never came down to a FG and we should not have asked Max to kick the FG after a negative play.

I just watched the NYG lose to Detroit because the passed on a FG from inside the red zone. They would have been up by 6 if they hit the FG. Instead, the 4th and 2 was stopped. Detroit got the ball, drove the field, kicked the FG to tie and then blew the giants out in OT. Analytics is making coaches stupid.

In the Oklahoma game specifically, he missed a FG earlier in the game and we turned the ball over on downs later in the game around the 37 yard line or so. If you have a good kicker in those situations then we would have only been down 26-23 with 8 minutes left. It completely changes you offense being down 26-17 vs 26-23.
Missed one against Mississippi State also. We were fortunate that their kicker also missed one.

You forgot the blue font, but 33 other people caught the sarcasm. 😂

At least he isn’t Wilhoit.
And the great Jeff Hall, well he wasn't very consistent. Started all four years and missed 9, 8, 6, 5 kicks in those years. His percentage was just over 68%. But he made buzzer beaters against UGA and Syracuse and the OT winner against FL in 1998. Those made up for all those misses.

So in the Georgia game you’re saying there were no missed tackles, dropped passes, overthrown balls, missed blocking assignments , penalties . Everyone has a job! Not just the kicker! NO KICKER IS 100%

I'd bet the farm that Gilbert wins us some games, too. Kid is a RS sophomore. Still time and room to grow both physically and mentally. To call for him to be replaced is just nuts. I'll roll with the kid.

Nobody is arguing that, but since the kicker only trots out there a couple times a game their mistakes are magnified. They literally only have one job. They don’t have to tackle a freak athlete, they don’t have to stay glued at the hip to an elite receiver, they don’t have to decipher what an offense is trying to do. The kicker literally only has one job. Y’all need to stop defending this dude tooth and nail. Kickers are damn head cases and whenever they don’t make clutch kicks it gets in their head. You can’t have that on your team. The actual athletes on the field have play with the ebbs and flows of a game, kickers do not.

If it’s that easy you should tryout 🤣

I played basketball and baseball where you have to play offense and defense. I had zero interest in being a specialist in a sport and I knew better than to play football because I didn’t want to be one of those CTE psychopaths shooting up places.

He hit them when it mattered the most, but he was also much better than his peers from other schools.

People on here giving him grace because we were up by 31, what if it was a game-winning field goal and he missed from 50? Are we saying the same thing here?

That’s a bit disingenuous. We all know if he makes that field goal the games over. Stop it.

I will go with Coach and his decision just like every player out there.

He at least has some value add to the program unlike many of his detractors that don’t. There are measurables for fans too and it is not how many hats and posts you have.

My oldest son was 11\11 with a long of 48 yards his senior year of high school.
