im sorry to keep beating a dead horse because I know at least 90% of posters and fans have questioned this as well but its in regards to Stephen Pearl and Skyler McBee. WTF is wrong with Pearl. I know he's the coach and runs the team but does he not see the same things we see? Is an "almost" entire fanbase wrong? I know fans aren't going to do his job for him or dictate how he does things but surely, a guy that actually gets paid to understand and teach the game of basketball could not be this blind. I keep hearing that when Bone comes back you won't see as much McBee but wasn't Bone further down the depth chart even before the injury. And now that Maymon is available, Pearl at the 3? You can't tell me McRae is honestly THAT bad. And no I'm not trying to turn this into a "I hate Bruce Pearl" thread but he's either so thrilled with having depth that quality doesn't come to mind or there is absolutely nobody that can contribute to be in the same role as these two guys, wich I find really hard to beleive. So enlighten me, seriously. Maybe I don't understand our bench as much as others. Is there nobody else on this team that would be better for UT on the floor than these two guys????????

I don't think it's because McRae sucks cause he's definitely better but I think alot of him not playing is a result of these investigations

Pearl is the glue guy that in games past has provided the spark of energy this team desperately needs. He is an excellent defender and understands the spacing and our offense better than anyone else on the court. I have zero problem with young Pearl getting a decent amount of minutes.

As for Mcbee... He is the only person that has been able to stretch the defense out towards the perimiter with any consistency. I do think that it would be great if someone else would step up and play behind Scotty, but you have to look at our roster and ask yourself who? Sure, McRae is an easy person to say, but his skill set is not at the SG, it is at the SF. True, in our system in years past the SG and SF have been interchangable, but not when we are playing this half court offense and defense. When McRae decides he wants to try as hard to keep the opponent from putting the ball in the bucket as he tries to get the ball in the bucket, he will start getting some good minutes. He just doesn't understand the level of intensity needed to play defense in the SEC.

McBee and Pearl are going to be in the lineup this season, and I truly like Pearl's energy at times, and McBee will develop into a good role player by the time he is done here. He is farther along as a sophomore than Jordan Howell was and he had a ton of minutes his SR season. McBee just doesn't have the lateral quickness to guard the opponents guards and doesn't have the size to guard a SF. He is byb definition a defensive liability.

Go Vols!!!

McRae wouldn't be playing at all if it were because of the investigations. It is because of his defense and decision making

Pearl plays with as much heart and hustle as anyone we have. AS much talent, NO but he rebounds, steals and Ive already said hustles . I dont mind him in there. Now as far as Mcbee. I dont have much to say

Pearl deserves to be out there based solely on his defense. I can't make excuses for McBee anymore. He is just bad.

If you cannot see the value in the heart of Pearl then you clearly don't know much about basketball..
are there times he is in when I am like..um why...sure...but he is very valuable to this team.

Just because he has heart doesn't mean he should be on the team, nonetheless playing. He is not good

I don't know about McBee, his value was the 3 pointer and stretching the defense but he can't put it in the hole right now. Pearl was playing at a very high/physical level the end of last season and the first 5 games this season. The last 2 games were so ugly no one was playing well so not the time to single him out. When he plays bad it looks a lot worse than when Harris plays bad.

Both Pearl and McBee do a great job defensively of fouling 35 feet from the goal, sometimes in crucial points of the game. They should get more minutes, not less---but wait, they would simply foul out with more minutes.
