Someone please tell me what you thought of this quote by Crompton because I may be taking it totally out of context or reading too much into it as writers love to mislead their readers to do.

After reading the article that Climer wrote quoting Crompton on why Jones didn't have any catches made me realize Crompton is overconfident, not all there, cocky, arrogant... I dunno something.
He said something like : "ask coach Kiffin why Jones didn't have a catch"

I interpreted Crompton as meaning "I threw the ball where the receiver was supposed to be. He obviously wasn't there. Go ask coach why our receivers are not running the route designated in the plays we call at the line"

Crompton knew he played bad and was not going to point the finger at his WRs for their performace.
A classy move. I applaud.

Here is where I now have a problem with Crompton.

Somebody doesn't know their playbook and or refuses to change because they think that what they are doing is right. If you see that your receiver has ran the wrong route; do not throw the ball where he was supposed to be. That doesn't count for brownie points.

I for one would like to know what the heck happened on some of those horrific pass plays.
Please tell me Kiffin on your show, instead of skipping over interceptions and incompletions.

Does crompton really see jones streaking on the post route and think he made the same read as his QB and has the ability to stop and curl back 15 yards to catch the ball after sprinting full speed the opposite direction?

I seriously doubt QB reads & WR reads are part of this offense at this point. I think Crompton is told to throw to a location and for whatever reason when the play breaks down for whatever reason he continues to do what coach said. Throw to spot. DuhH

Do I have any idea what I am talking about or is there more to this?

a QB waiting for his receiver to finish his route and look for the ball is not going to get past peewee league.

cant argue with that. the truth is that crompton is playing stupid football. it doesnt mean he cant play good fooball, it just means he isnt at the moment. he is not making good reads, he is staring down recievers, and he is then proceeding to throw the int. one thing i am not seeing as much as last year which is a good thing is the overthrow after overthrow. He still does it, but not nearly as much.

Perhaps for the same reason he holds the ball out in one hand when he's getting tackled. He has everything you want in a QB except the natural gift to just let it happen.

The first interception happened when the receiver was ten yards behind and six yards in front of any defenders. The receiver was WIDE OPEN and he couldn't get him the ball. it was just playing catch and he couldn't do it.

Yeah I know the ball needs to be released before receivers make their break. That is sorta my point.

I'm talking about a couple things. One is Crompton looking at a spot and seeing that his receiver is well past it on a post route or corner route when it should be another type. (wrong route) My point is the WR is LONG gone and he decides he's going to throw it there anyway instead of looking at option #2

Crompton's reactions after some of the throws makes me believe he's thinking: What he Heck are you doing!?

He's acting like... I put that ball right on such and such yd line and you weren't there!?

That being said, I don't think it's Crompton's fault every time he's firing the ball to spots on the field where there is NO ONE THERE. Someone is supposed to be there and they aren't.

I dunno.

Last year we saw this crap constantly and it seems like as soon as Jones and Moore get in a game it starts happening again. I get the injury and lack of practice but we didn't see the frosh screwing up routes that badly in the WKU game.

Yeah Crompton had about a 500 sqare foot area to lob the ball into on that play.

I give him a pass on that one. The adrenaline rush of seeing someone that wide open, thinking touchdown before you let go is good for an 11 yard boost.

Heck I would get a rush playing NCAA on ps3 seeing somone that open.

When his adrenaline flows, the ball floats high. Not sure how Kififn could simulate that in practice.

That's not what he said. He was asked if Jones contributed to the loss in some form and the guy referenced a Kiffin comment about Jones and Crompton said "you'll have to talk to coach about that." He simply deflected the comment back on his coach as he should have.

I wish I had the article because It may have been a different writerthat asks this of Crompton. My mistake.

Climer must have had the quote from Crompton saying he "didn't think about last year."

Maybe I can find it

The writer, that put the spin on this article? He's got a little Fulmer in him.

Ok,

I found the article. It was the "missing Freshman" Not sure who wrote this.

Encore for freshmen non-existent GoVolsXtra

Jones, hampered by an ankle injury in the preseason, was a non-factor against UCLA. Jones was the team's leading receiver last season with 30 catches and four touchdowns.

Crompton wasn't sure why Jones didn't get any passes.

"You'll have to talk to coach about that," Crompton said.

I'm assuming he went to throw the ball, noticed Jones ran the wrong route, and tried to stop his throwing motion, but it was too late.

Result: Throwing the ball in the dirt.

#Fail

:banghead2:

This sounds logical to me. Do you see this happening often?

Jones had no business in the game and Kiffin agreed to it after the game. He was no where near game ready.

The throws that were behind the recivers was because they were running too fast. The throws that were over there heads is because they were not deep enough. The throws in front of the recivers was because they were too slow , and the throws to the other team looked like they had an orange shirt on. Mommie and daddy said it was not his fault, so get off him. Tha crompdaddy knows football. It's not his fault. He can't do it all.

I wondered why Jones was in the game myself and I thought there were some miscommunications on some of the passes but the QB play was terrible. I think he just got rattled early and never recovered. It's a real shame that he has the skills but just can't get his head right.

face it. things aren't going to get better with crompton at q.b.

or as the ancient greek said, "youth can be outgrown, ignorance taught, drunkeness sobered. but, stupidity--that's forever."
