We will not lose to LSU and next week is going to be a barn burner.Hayes: Is Tennessee really a Playoff contender? We’re about to find out. Even if we lose to LSU If we beat Bama next weekend then def we are.
I'm an optimist. Always have been. But I don't see this defense being good enough to do better than 10-2. The secondary has to get better...and it will....but I think that's next year.
That is my hope...beat LSU and Kentucky and finish 10-2. I know that's not what some want to hear, but that gets Tennessee into a New Year's 6 Bowl and, man, what a ball of momentum that would create. Imagine winning the Sugar Bowl over someone like Oklahoma State, finishing 11-2 in just Heupel's 2nd season, closing out a top 10 recruiting class (which that kind of success would almost certainly lead to), and go into 2023 with an improved defense, more overall talent and experience, and a feeling that we can absolutely compete for an SEC title.

I started the season thinking 8-4 would be a good solid season...and that could still happen...and it would still be a pretty good season...but just wouldn't feel good to go 4-4 the last 8 games. Good news is I think 9-3 is now the floor. If our pass D doesn't get better, there's a good chance we slip a few times more than expected. However, Hooker is our Grant Williams of football this year...he's putting us on his back. There's just as good of a chance of us going 10-2 as going 8-4.I'm an optimist. Always have been. Can't find it right now, but I saw an article with a couple of scenarios.
1) Tennessee looses to Bama, beats UGA, beats Bama in the SECCG - definitely in the CFP
2) UT beats Bama, looses to UGA, UGA beats Bama in SECCG - highly considered with the Bama win
In any scenario, our destiny with regards to the CFP lies in beating either Bama or UGA or both...I prefer both.
If Tennessee loses to LSU, they have ZERO chance to beat Bama. They will be deflated and it will go badly. I think Tennessee drills LSU.Hayes: Is Tennessee really a Playoff contender? We’re about to find out. Even if we lose to LSU If we beat Bama next weekend then def we are.
I’d suggest you read my posts dating back to the hiring of Heupel. I’ve been on board since day 1. He checked my boxes, and the administration and AD has righted the ship. My list of grievances were substantial but not lengthy, and the approach this coach has given to turning around the program has been right on in my estimation. I was never an irretrievable NegaVol, just a grounded one. It’s a miracle transformation from NegaVol to Sunshine Pumper in a matter of a few weeks.
