Playoff expansion is the wrong way to go

Bad take. CFB needs expansion to 12 teams. Top 4 teams rewarded, lower 8 battle for a spot against top 4.

Since OU and Texas are coming to the SEC, distribute the other Big 12 teams to other conferences, giving us a power 4.

The conference championships serve as “round 1” of an 8 team playoff, and you’re left with a final 4.

Group of 5 teams can put together their own championship. Who cares. Teams like UTEP and and Buffalo are no longer going to be in an actual college football discussion. If you want, kick out teams like Rutgers from the Big 10 and replace with someone like Cincinnati.

But again UGA is a better team than any the other conferences have to offer. Imagine the NFL playoffs telling a team that could win a super bowl at 11-5 tough luck no playoffs because you didn’t win your division but a 8-8 champ goes in
NFL is a different animal. College football never has a bunch of teams that are NC caliber.

As long as conferences don’t have equitable schedules, this line of thinking is flawed.

So I assume you want parity between and within conferences so all teams end up with the same 6-6 record at the end of the season. Yeah, that would sure take the controversy out of the CFP. Of course, I guess we could just give all teams a national championship trophy at the end of the season so nobody gets their feelings hurt.

I don’t really care all that much about conference ties, etc., but based on results, playoff expansion is laughable considering 13 of 16 semifinal games to date have been decided by more than a touchdown with many being total blowouts.

Expansion is simply another Lord Sankey/NCAA money grab. Nothing else.

You went further than I would have. I’d settle for our fellow East members getting a taste of Bama on a yearly basis, or at the very least, rotate.

Must be nice to get MS St, Arky, or Ole Miss annually rather than a drubbing from the Tide.

How would an expanded playoff system made a difference this year or last ? Putting in more teams is just a waste of time. It's a feel good for another team to say they made the playoffs even if there is no chance for them to win. More games is just a money grab for the schools and the gambling services.
Because they COULD win and therefore have more to play for

There is the POTENTIAL that we can create a DECEMBER MADNESS just like MARCH MADNESS in BB. Odds are longer, but right now after the four are picked the odds for everybody else are zero. Lots of creative ways to structure the first and second rounds in a 16 team format to get back to the final 4 we have today. Hosting first round or my preferred 4 regional sites with 2 games over a weekend like BB in domed arenas. Playing in Ann Arbor or South Bend is a bit risky. Most sponsors could migrate with their naming rights to the sites. You end up using the current playoff format.
