Playoff Blowouts - Garbage games

Too many people to quote, but can anyone tell me what these numbers mean or where they’re from?

32-12
28-14
31-7
22-10
23-20
27-9

They do have the right to compete. Get rid off all auto-qualifiers and just select the top 12-16 teams. That way a G5 program has the same path to a championship that a P4 program does. Boise would have made the playoff last year, as one of the top 12 teams.
These are fair points, but you also have to acknowledge the deck is stacked against P4 teams being ranked. That's actually one of the arguments for a P4 AQ - it gives them a chance to prove they belong, to their devoted fan base.

Honestly, I'm one of those college football fans that thinks its good for CFB to have James Madison or Tulane be part of a 12-team field. At least this way its keeps hope and life in P4 conferences and keeps some semblance of college football that we all used to know and love. As opposed to seeing some 3rd-place finisher from a P5 once again (yawn), and tilt the deck even more in favor of transferring in.

I don’t mind Tulane or James Madison being part of the 12 team CFP, but at the same time is absurd, especially given JMU’s strength of schedule and their 2 score loss to the 1 P4 team they played (4 loss Louisville from the juggernaut ACC). Boise was worthy of qualifying last season. I don’t think either team was going to give anyone a run this season . I hope going forward that they have the opportunity to make the CFP, but they should at least have to be a top 20 team if not higher . Obviously, this season was an anomaly w/ the ACC being a mess, but everyone on here would’ve been in Frisco, TX with pitch forks and torches if we were in Vandy, Notre Dame or Texas shoes.

Now let's tell the rest..the two later CFP games went head to head vs NFL...but before you say it was crappy CFP games.. in 2024 CFP went head to head vs NFL in first round on Saturday as well. Texas vs Clemson and SMU vs Penn State and once again got smoked in viewership...

Only CFP games that got great viewership was the ones that stood alone without any competition from NFL...

Head-to-Head Viewership (Saturday, Dec 21, 2024)
  • NFL (NBC): Chiefs vs. Texans: ~15.5 million viewers.
  • CFP (TNT): Penn State vs. SMU: ~6.4 million viewers.
  • NFL (Fox): Ravens vs. Steelers: ~15.4 million viewers.
  • CFP (TNT): Clemson vs. Texas: ~8.6 million viewers.

Point is when is College Football going to learn they will never beat NFL in head to head viewership..... should've never be scheduled on same day as NFL ...

2025 NFL games viewership from Saturday.
  • Packers vs. Bears: ~21.34 million viewers (FOX).
  • Eagles vs. Commanders: ~15.46 million viewers (FOX).

NO ONE, especially the CFP, promised you this would be "the best 12 teams in the country" for this tournament.

The way the selections work was known SPECIFICALLY not to pick the top 12.

Yet you complain.
That sounds like a legitimate reason to complain. I am biased though, I hate, hate, hate the expanded playoff and enjoy complaining about it.

How are you not supposed to schedule against the NFL when it comes to CFP? They’re the clowns that go out of their way to schedule those games opposite of the CFP, which really is a slimeball move by Goodell, considering what college football does for them. Eventually college football is going to have to decide just put its best product vs their product . The NFL has basically become the mafia and it puts its hands in everything. They’ve taken Christmas from the NBA, there was a time when college football used to have great Thursday night matchups and now bc the CFP wants to have a Saturday in December they put the Super Bowl champs vs a division rival and an all time rivalry game on opposite.
The rest of the story may be that yes they were up against the NFL, but those matchups were never drawing the casual viewers. Nobody was not going Christmas shopping or making sure their Christmas party had a TV bc JMU was on. It would’ve been interesting to see what the #s had been if Notre Dame had been playing at Oregon.

NFL has scheduled Saturday Doubleheaders during the last few weeks of the season for years, its not like they just started it.... NFL would've smoked Notre Dame vs Oregon as well. NFL will ALWAYS be king in viewership...

The nfl has always scheduled Saturday games, but they specifically told college football to not schedule CFP games on Saturday . They’re just being dicks now bc they can. They didn’t always schedule games like they did last year and this year featuring that kind of star power. It wasn’t a random schedule generator that put the past Super Bowl winner on at the same time as a CFP game and then put teams on that has a massive following like the Steelers or Packers in division rivalry games. They could’ve scheduled a Jags vs Titans game and a Jets vs Cleveland game, but they clearly wanted to crush the CFP. It’s unfortunate that they can’t give the college game a day other than NYD, considering it’s basically a free farm system proving ground.

CFP could've scheduled a DH on Wednesday and Friday when NFL didn't have games.

Don't want to hear nobody would've watched the games on Wednesday , a DH starting at 5:00 or 6:00 p.m. would've worked on both days... Then you get full viewership that you're looking for ...

The NFL is actually being nice by not starting to schedule games on September, October, and November Saturdays. They could if they wanted to, and they would dominate the ratings. They are in the cat birds seat, and that's just the way it is. 90 percent of the most watched TV programs in any given year are NFL games. The biggest chunk of the rest are big college football match ups. If memory serves me correctly at least.

Overall, football is king in this country from coast to coast.

I guess it’s just too much for the NFL to allow its farm system to have an 8 hour window without interference . Kind of bs, but when you’re the equivalent of the sports tv mafia I guess you do whatever you want .

But I do agree the scheduling of the last two games, not just time but they were not on the regular networks or ESPN played into the ratings.

So, as expected, Tulane and James Madison get blown out. Just awful games to watch. Neither team should have been in the playoffs.

I hope corrections are made in the process and the Best and Most Competitive teams play in the future.

It’s a shame. It’s like watching a Homecoming games with a doormat team. Sad.
Tennessee was beaten just as bad by Ohio State. The only reason they made the playoff was the schedule and a much improved defense. 12 teams is too many, unless you are just going to take the top 12. Get rid of conference championships.

They already took Thursdays away

They did, but they college football used to have some really good matchups on Thursdays too. The Big East and ACC used to have some decent games back in the day on Thursdays. The NFL started their Thursdays with pretty terrible matchups and then they switched to pretty good divisional matchups.

FTR. The semifinals of the FCS Division 1 had a team that won by 16 and a team that won by 25. Just saying there is no perfect science or guarantees w/ playoff football at any level

I don't get why people think the FBS postseason has to be this perfect model with every game being the most exciting thing ever. It's freakin ridiculous, literally no playoff in any sport or level has that yet for some reason FBS is held to this ridiculous expectation. There will always be someone to complain.
