I for one think it is about freaking time! To win in the SEC and to win championships you need to play your best players - in every phase of the game. The successful teams have done it that way for years.

Coach 'em up Gran.

I agree. how are special teams looking at the practices? i haven't heard much except for who will be returning punts and kick offs.

I think our kicking should be pretty solid. Hopefully DL will have a better year. Cunningham is in charge of punts and kickoffs I believe. He seems to be pretty solid, I would still like to see kickoffs in the endzone though.

Good to see a coaching staff actually realize that special teams changes games.

It doesnt only change games, it wins them. Field position and the occasional return can really sway the game.

I am glad to know Kiffin addressed this out loud to the media. The Vols have been freakin awful in the past many years on special teams. I am looking forward to some kickoff and punt return TD's this year along with blocked punts and stopping that midget from Florida from making long returns! Berry should be on the kick off team.

VT is famous for their special teams. Why? They put some of their best players on special teams. You always take the chance of getting one of your starters hurt but its part of the game GO VOLS!!!!!

I just hate how Berry is on coverage teams. If you think you've seen a great hit on a RB, there are probably ten collisions worse than that on a single kickoff. Theres a reason almost 50% of ACL injuries happen during this time.

People that are fundamentally solid and can produce big licks are the ones we need on the field. Without the first you have no chance of the second on kickoff/punt coverage. Over the past 5 years, I would always get nervous at every punt with the thought the other guys was going to take it to the house. FBTIT.

Kicking game is so key. One of the reasons I love Urban Meyer is the kicking game changes he made at UF. Zook and Spurrier sucked at it. Since he's been here, UF has blocked 26 different kicks and returned 4 punts for TD's.

In recent years we've been at a decided disadvantage in special teams, well, at least against the better teams on our schedule. I'd be happy if we just pull to a draw.

Kick-offs (coverage) I'm not sure will be much better until Palardy gets in. I still don't think we're getting them in the end zone. Tackling should improve though.

Kick-off (returns) will improve. Having Foster return kicks just shows how clueless the old staff was. Need a fast, elusive guy back there; foster was a power guy.

FGs I hope will be better this year, sounds like Lincoln was getting more accurate.

Punt (coverage) should improve with Cunningham's improved hang time. Tackling should improve.

Punt (returns) has potential to improve on yardage, possibly suffer the occassional turnover with freshman back there.

Tennessee has had special teams?

Brandon James, DeSean Jackson, and every other Opposing Punt/Kick returner the past few years begs to differ!
