What positives can we acknowledge here? Which players stood out; fought tooth and nail; proved themselves.

Who are the players we can see as being part of a base we can build on?

Yes we lost but we are a young team. Which players are on an upward arc in their Vol careers? I feel strongly we have plenty.

List has to start with Tyler Baron. Playing as a sophomore, he exacted his will on the game at times. That's the sort of play that makes me circle a guy's name for potentially making All-SEC and All-American honors down the road.

Velus Jones is going to run one back eventually. That guy has "it" too.

Hendon Hooker is the quarterback.

Jacob Warren will be catching more TDs this year.

A few others come to mind, but I wanted to start with those names.

I'll probably get flamed but Banks stood out! He was 1% too aggressive on a few plays BUT I LIKE THE AGGRESSION. Getting him to dial it back is alot easier than getting players to dial it up.
Agreed. If he can channel his emotions and fight, he will be something special.

Jackson is gonna end up all SEC at this rate.

Barron is looking good so far.

Take out the interception and Hooker was very solid.

The WRs collectively beat Pitt DBs multiple times early.

Fant and Warren need to get a lot more looks. TEs can find weak spots in the middle of these defenses and allow for a quick passing game in lieu of consistent rushing.

Jackson
Baron
Banks when he is not a DA.
WR core is solid along with Warren & Fant.Tillman would probably have close to 300 yards receiving and multiple TDs through two games if someone would get him the ball.
HH was a pleasant surprise when Milton went down.
One of our best playmakers (Evans) was missed yesterday.

Baron made some big plays but to me the worst thing the defense did yesterday was contain with the DEs. Pitt Qb killed them when he broke contain both running and throwing. From the pocket he wasn’t as effective. Jmo.

…and we should not forget Hooker’s unnecessary early fumble that cost momentum and points.

Defense looks alright, just need more quality depth. Offensive scheme is nice if we can find a QB to run it. Team as a whole kept fighting and trying to pull it out.

Christian Charles punt block
Ellijah Simmons
T. Barron
Jackson
Hooker
TE's as group
Special teams as a whole have done well. The block in the back on the field goals was a play you could call about 85% of all returns

DL vs run is very good. DL vs pass not so good.

LBs verses run are good. LBs vs pass are a work in progress. LBs pile driving RBs not very good.

Theo looks good. Secondary I'm initially disappointed in but the lack of a pass rush means they have to cover longer.

OL with Cooper is pretty solid, depth is hurting. Carvin is doing a good job at Center considering. TEs are coming around.

Can't wait to have a healthy Jimmy Calloway and Jaylen Hyatt on the field together.

All the ones mentioned above, but add the kickers to the list. Punting was outstanding and got field position. Place kicking was perfect. Also, one of the most improved from last year (in this game) was Solon Page. The sleep walked most of last year but was solid this game.

The game was lost by poor QB play and stupid penalties.
