Who do you guys think are candidates to move over to DT if necessary?

Would D Thomas be a candidate? Aaron Douglas? One of the Sullins?

Does anyone know if there's any chance that Hughes gets in?

Looking back on those brilliant recruiting classes over the last few years, they don't look quite as brilliant with the gaping hole that we have on our defensive line. It sure would have been nice to add a defensive tackle or two somewhere along the way.

Andre Mathis could become a full time DT, although he would be undersized. Maybe Brimfield or Pope, but who really knows. Losing Nelson sure does hurt.

I've never heard the reason that Brimfield was moved to the OL in the first place. He was a DT in high school, and a good one at that. He is the perfect size for a DT and the depth in the OL is MUCH better than that at DT.

Perhaps he couldn't cut it at DT? Of course if he couldn't make the depth chart at DT you have to wonder how good he really was.

Doesn't seem like he ever had much of a chance to prove himself over there. If I'm not mistaken it was early last season that it was announced he was on the OL. But you're right, if he couldn't make the depth chart with the DT's we currently have on the second string, then he must not have been very good.

Yeah 423... I'm sure that thought is original with you... I'm sure the guys whose careers are dependent in part on having quality defensive tackles never thought of recruiting any...

As far as I know however, it is still recruiting and not conscription. If they don't sign or the ones that will sign end up like Hall or Melancon... what exactly are the coaches supposed to do? You have all the brilliant answers... let's hear it.

It seems they just though OL was a better fit for Brimfield.

Isn't he still a little dinged up too though?

Yeah...only going 5 deep at DT completely overshadows landing players like Berry, A. Foster, McCoy, Parker, Taylor, Morley...

And those are just the ones who have a good shot a All-SEC

You have to be the most negative person on here...and that's saying alot

I think he is a little dinged up. Seems like I read that somewhere recently. If they could get him healthy, since he probably won't be getting much action on the OL anyways, they might wanna try him again at DT. We sure could use the depth. He might not be great, but hey, beggars can't be choosers.

Brimfield. Also Ayers can play some DT. Not full-time, but take some snaps at DT

What about Vladmir Richards I saw in athlon's he was recruited as a DT with his strength he could be awesome with any speed.

So lets say we lose another DT which is very likely. What are some creative schemes we could use to justify the losses... meaning, since the DB's are stacked are there any LB's that could play. Probably a stupid question but I've seen crazier.

Why hasn't anyone mentioned Gerald Williams? I know he seems to be the future at Linebacker but I think that the bigger need might be on the line.BTW, Is he eligible yet?

I think he's finishing up a math class and then he'll be good to go, but yeah it's a possibility.

As far as different formations or schemes, I highly doubt Chavis would go to a 3-4. I think they'd move Ayers to DT before they went to a 3-4

I thought about this earlier then started trying to think when UT or any other major school I could think of lost two DT's to injury in the same season... and couldn't.

It may not be incredibly likely that they lose another one.

BTW, I don't think a patch works in this situation. I think they need to look at someone who they intend to keep there. I personally think that may exclude Brimfield.

good point sjt about patchwork. I say you find a freshman or redshirt freshman DT and you say, "Hey big boy, you came to UT to play, get your butt out there and learn it hands on." Maybe patchwork some, but get the future in there immediately.

That is exactly what they would do. It's not like we just lost a proven player. There were lots of doubts about Nelson already. No need to freak out. Now the young players play.

I remember in the 06' recruiting period we went after a ton of DT's and thought we had a few of them...The signing day came and none of them signed...Looks like that has come back to haunt us now

He was a DT in South Florida.

If I am coaching against UT, I would run, run, and run some more and see if that defensive line could keep up with me in the 4th quarter.

We had better concentrate on ball control on offense.
