players whining at 5:30 am workouts

As if no other college coaches schedule morning workouts...get a clue...

That's incredibly lame.

you have an incredible ability to cut to the chase and really ferret out that which really matters. Good on you.

First, I am aware that other schoold have a.m. workouts. I really do not know how common 5:30 is, though. And it would seem its uncommon since so many folks on here want to give Kiffin an atta' boy for it.

Second, if he had one at 4 in the morning people would think its absurd, no matter how much Kiffin might relish "breaking 'em down and building 'em back up." So, to me, its a perfectly legitimate question to ask as to whether there is a real payoff here for this exercise (no pun intended).

Or is it just some sort of flexing of CLK's muscle (no pun intended) to show the team who's boss?

How much of this is actually going to translate into something versus how much of it is CLK merely envisioning himself as some sort of made-for-tv Coach Carter?

Well then,it's not that bad of a vision!

This whole thread is based on hearsay, does that have any relevance to you LG.

I think CLK is incorporating a lot of what he learned at USC. This is how he was taught to do it and this is how he is going to teach it.

Players are whining about the 5:30 am workouts. Well that’s bad. This could lead to low team morale. He should let the team take a vote on when they want to work out, how hard, how often, and how long. That would make everyone get involved and make them feel like their opinion matters. IMO, this would lead to a positive team spirit that will pay dividends this fall.

This is the worst idea I have ever heard of.

This program has had such a lack of discipline for so long it's a great change. So far he's been the opposite of Fulmer and that's why most people around here love it.

And it's not a legitimate question.

I don't know how common 5:30 am is either. I assume he brought if over from his USC days. If it is good enough for USC, then it is fine by me.

The thing that bothers me is how much some these kids are "in the dark" on sacrifice and hard work. Lane's chemo treatments will eventually knock out the cancer that exists!

Agreed

The way to motivate them is to pound their asses into the ground. It all goes back to my previous statement. Football is not a democracy, it is a dictatorship. The players will unite with the incredible challenges they are posed with, that they won't be able to accomplish alone. The real stars will shine in the face of adversity.

I think this is sarcasm which I can appreciate, but just in case its not, my vote is that democracies NEVER work in sports. . .

Nobody has more 4- and 5-star prima donnas on the roster than USC. If they can get up and work out at 5:30, then so can Creer and Warren and the rest.

It all depends on whether they just want to be known as great players or actually BE great players.

YES there is a real payoff. Working out early in the morning, makes your metabolism work harder and more efficiently throughout the day. This is especially true if its before breakfast (which I am assuming it is). If you look at what our strength coach did at USCe he knows what he is doing.

Also, what is wrong with CLK "showing the team who's boss?" That's a good thing, not bad. They don't have the authority to question their coach when they are taking scholarships away from other deserving students. They better give their all and do whatever CLK says IMHO.

if you did that this team wld be pathetic. i'm not sure if you've ever been a part of sports or not, but this is def not how you build championship teams.

If it weren't for most of the armchair coaches on the internet and in the media, sports would fade off into the darkness. Then no one would know of Lennon Creer.
