We eventually got Juicy Locke, and he did nothing.Similar to the other thread and owing to the mention of Randal Cobb, who are some of the players we should have gotten over the years but we didn’t?
R Cobb
Cadillac Williams
Michael Oher?
Patrick Willis
Patrick Turner
Eric Locke?
Who are some others?
QB- Trevor Lawrence, Michael PenixWe still have a few weeks before kickoff, so how bout someone put together their best starting 22 of guys we missed on.
We were ever really in the running for Derrick Henry? Or Gibbs? I don’t remember us being on their final listsQB- Trevor Lawrence, Michael Penix
RB- Cadillac, Ronnie Brown, Derrick Henry, Jahmir Gibbs
WR- Randy Moss, Tee Higgins, Ladd McConkey, Randall Cobb, Mecole Hardman
OL- Jordan Seaton, Michael Oher, Orlando Brown, Stanton Ramil, Francis Mauigoa, Douglas Utu
DL- Carl Lawson, Robert Nkemdiche, Walter Nolen, Marvin Austin (I believe we were in on him)
LB- Patrick Willis, Ernie Sims, Donta Hightower, BJ Ojulari
DB- Vonn Bell, Harrison Smith, Adoree Jackson, Jaycee Horn, Mackensie Alexander
Honorable mention, just for his name: Shocky-Jacques Louis
Need a tight end, but that’s a starting 22 and then some.
Pruitt told Gibbs thanks but no thanks. I will take that as missing out, he likely comes here over Georgia Tech if we had said he could play running back. I seem to remember that we were seemingly in it with Henry until the 2012 season started unfolding, but I could have been remembering it better than it was. I do know Derrick Green broke our hearts and went to Michigan before becoming a bust that same year.We were ever really in the running for Derrick Henry? Or Gibbs? I don’t remember us being on their final lists
I saw "Cobb-Webb" in the rain against Auburn at Neyland in '89 IIRC. One of the best 1-2 punches at RB at UT. Webb was the best RB ever at UT. The 1989 Cotton Bowl was a thing of beauty for him.He was a top 10 recruit in the nation and the Vols wanted him, but missed out. Penn State was coming off a national championship year in 86.
Vols signed Reggie Cobb in 86 and Chuck Webb in 87. Throw Tony Thompson in there too, but Thompson was one of the top prospects out of Knoxville of all time.
Yes, we were in on Marvin Austin. I honestly believe he would have come here if Butch Davis hadn’t been hired at UNC. Davis bringing in John Blake as DL coach pretty much sealed the deal.QB- Trevor Lawrence, Michael Penix

He was but Webb and Cobb proved to be more productive. Webb was the best running back talent ever at Tennessee I believe. He was putting up huge numbers, definetly had a shot at the Heisman had he not had the bad ACL tear. But Leroy was physically a beast as well he just never put up the numbers I thought he might at Penn State. I remember showed up at his house in a limo, and Paterno rarely did in home visits at that point in his career. He probably felt like he had to if he was going to get him out of Tennessee. We need to define “missing out on” because some of y’all are listing recruits that were never coming hereQB- Trevor Lawrence, Michael Penix
