Players that quit and give little Effort

Is that on Pruitt or on the players? Don’t get me wrong the head coach has the responsibility of motivating the team. But you can’t make chicken salad out of chicken 💩 and this team has some malcontent, lazy pieces of crap on it.

Every team has lazy pieces of crap on it. This team has more than most. Still on Pruitt and his staff to motivate everyone and create a unifying team culture, not a divisive one.

Many players looked like they didn’t want to sweat or get dirty

Like Shawn Elliot said, Georgia State was in much better shape than Tennessee
No one would disagree that Tennessee was pushed around and bullied the whole game
Poor Vols

It starts with recruiting. I understand a coach is responsible, but no coach gets everything out of every player. How many awful kids come from good families? People are who they are.

Everyone is looking for justification over last week. It's over, put it behind us and move forward. Nothing will change it, or make us feel any better

But, Arlo Guthrie wanted to kill and eat dead burnt bodies, just to get to Viet Nam, remember?

Bad attitude/lack of effort...consider

If a non-starter is guilty, no real loss to the team, just to himself...
If a starter/contributing member is guilty, first of all why the hell...you are playing?! This hurts the team as a whole and should affect the individual IF he is held accountable.

If you stop playing the guilty starter/contributing member, and reward a deserving player, the effort/attitude/etc. will go up for player and most likely help the team.

Now for the demoted player, he'll get his ass in gear if he wants to play or get ta steppin. This is where coaching/accountability should occur by coaching staff.

Either way, stop rewarding the bad apples and make them change their attitudes or hit the transfer portal.

If he could have, he probably would have pulled a Butch in 2014 and bring in 32 new guys. That is true. Even still...man it's not a good sign he can't motivate those guys still going into year 2.

Like I get it, Butch didn't bring in the best guys, but even still.
Yes, horrible sign because some of the guys he can't motivate are probably players he has recruited. I know we're one game into year two, but blaming Butch for the culture of the team starts to become a stretch at this point.

Perhaps there is another example, but I've never seen a team as unmotivated, unfocused, and unprepared as Tennessee was on Saturday. In a season opener, no less. That performance is unacceptable no matter what, but perhaps makes more sense if it happened at the end of a disappointing season, or right after a draining game against a good opponent. This was a season opener, and it's totally inexplicable.

The million dollar question, IMO, is why are they not motivated?

Completely on Pruitt? No way in hell I can agree with that. Players have to shoulder some of the blame for that crap fest we witnessed.
Well, I guess there's enough blame to go around. Take this play for example...was Johnson supposed to be split 10 yards outside the nearest defender on the line who easily got pushed out of the play? I'd think someone told him to line up way out there, and we were gashed most every time they ran this play, and didn't learn from it. And Flowers backside pursuit angle doesn't look like any sort of basic high school technique.... or the linebacker playing his zone, or the corner back to have no technique to get off a block? There were at least four breakdowns on just this one play, and if they're playing "assignment football" this is not a touchdown. We have vastly more talent, yet looked dazed and confused. Not certain who should "own this leaky bag of dog poop" but hope the figure it out quickly.

It is one game into Year 2. People are acting like the season is over and the GSU game showing is what happened all year.....
It sure does feel like it's over. We lose Saturday, and I'm all for just forfeiting the rest of the season. We'll be embarrassed every game, every game.

Maybe we can get the number 1 draft pick in the offseason that way.

I think it’s s but if both but feel most is on the coach. He Needs to set the tone and he’s getting paid $4M to do so.

I look at it this way, if you're playing with guys that half ass it and won't give the effort to win, sit them. Play the ones that are willing to try, even if it means playing all freshman. You're going to lose either way but at least the freshman will gain the experience. JMO of course.

Last Saturday Tennessee was gassed by a 2 win Sun Belt Team and many players simply gave up and threw in the towel in the 4th quarter.

How does Pruitt get a handle on this lack of effort from his players and how can he motivate these same players that gave up to Georgia State?

My question is CAN HE get a handle on the lack of effort? Been going on far too long.

To be clear, i'm not on the "fire Pruitt" train but daggumit!!!!!

Getting a dog to do exactly what you want them to takes time.........but with a stick and a few light slams it quickens.

Jennings is going to need a few teammates step up and share the leadership void with him.

One player cannot lead a team by himself.

I think Al Wilson had some help in the leadership of the team in 1998.

No question that there was no emotion and no fight... however, sometimes when a player is confused over his assignment and is hesitating over what to do, that can be mistaken for a lack of effort. We saw a lot of that too, whether inexperience was to blame (like I think was true with Henry T on one play) or whether we were completely unprepared. There was so much wrong going on... it is hard to know exactly where the fault lies.

Butch also made a lot of promises to players..... it could be anything that is creating a culture problem... our best hope is for Pruitt to figure it out.

Right after you do WVa, Florida, Georgia, Alabama and SCar.

Additionally,

Auburn came after 3 big losses (WVU/UGA/UF) and then UK came after 1 bad loss in Bama and close loss to USC.... so in those 2 wins against ranked teams, they came after a series of big losses.

The point you’re trying to make makes no sense.
