Players on Scholarship after NSD (split)

Here is my list and I've removed Evans as unlikely he returns

2010 Juniors (11)

*
2010 Sophomores (17)

*
2010 Freshman (31)

So that's 59, and a 26 man recruiting class puts us back at 85, minus transfers. I'm not sure why so many people were saying it would take another year to get back to the scholarship limit, unless they meant dead on the scholarship limit. I'd say having 80+ is pretty much there, which we should have, shouldn't we?

Maybe people are leaning towards having 85 quality scholarship players. No idea just my guess. So we're not counting on guys like Fleming or Vereen. Neither one are horrible by any means, but not necessarily SEC starting material.

I doubt that's what's being referenced for a couple reasons. First of all, I've heard Dooley say it, and I don't think he'd throw his guys under the bus quite like that. Second, nobody has 85 scholarship players that are SEC quality. Everybody has some flameouts.

Ok, I'm going to ask a stupid question; Who is "D. Williams"?

DeMario Williams. Former hoops player at MTSU. Sitting out this year and is a WR. Coaches loved what they were seeing out of him in the spring.

Thanks! :hi:

Your list is identical to mine except:

Art Evans - iffy, I agree.
Ben Martin - won't he be back?
DeMario Williams - assumed he'd be put on scholly next season. I could be wrong here.

You aren't kidding. I didn't realize we will only have 11 seniors.

Thanks, LWSVOL, for the breakdown.

12, assuming Ben Martin returns. Plus Slusher will be a Sr., but IDK if he will be on scholly.

LWS is right, the big numbers crunch comes in 2012.

It's troubling to see how inconsistent the class numbers are. Next year, we'll only be able to sign 12 + attrition. The following year will be 17 + attrition. But then the year after that, we'll be able to sign 31 + attrition (minus whatever of the earlier attrition came from that 31). But with a cap on the incoming class sizes, that last class will leave us back under the scholarship limit. I suppose not by too much, but it's going to be a really tough class to replace. In one way, it would be good for all these freshmen to stay around until their senior year (if we can make a push that year for a title). But in another, it'd be better for some to go pro and even out the numbers we replace each year. I guess this is too far ahead to be worried though. Lots can happen.

We can think good ole Phil for that...

But isn't it common to see the number of players in a class diminish as they get older? At least that's the way it seems to work out in my NCAA Dynasties :p

At least 3 guys (Pair, Darr, and Meline) from that 31 were redshirts, so they should be counted separately. Unfortunately, some will likely get injured and have to use their redshirts as well, spreading out the numbers. Turning over the 2010 class will suck, but it won't be devastating.

I think Bray, James, Hunter and maybe D.Rogers and J.Smith, Stone and Brewer if he develops enough, will all be gone after their JR years.

it won't be at 85 in the fall when game start. somewhere between 75-78will be the roster IMO. we will ahve attrition occur between now and first game

I missed Martin. should have dropped him down to Juniors list as a returner. means currently, sitting on 60 returning.

Any guesses about D. Williams, Slusher, & Bullard being put on scholly? IIRC last year walk-ons Guess, Wolf & Bowens were put on scholly.

Prolly depends on attrition. I agree, no doubt we will have more this year.

Williams, likely.

Slusher, not so likely. IMO, questionable he returns. won't help if he does.

Bullard, I doubt it. Has to count on the 26 enrollees if put on scholarship before 2012. If we only enroll 25, helps his chances.
