Players not being developed

Do our players want to develop?

Everybody WANTS to be a bad@$$...but who WANTS to BECOME a bad@$$?

also JP did not hire a S&C coach and these players look weak. Being dragged down field, always being pushed around

I guess technically you can say they promoted Artis to the position but thats a steep drop off from a 26 year old who was an assistant at Duke versus Fitzgerald who coached in the NFL previously.

Another one of Pruitt's decisions showing up on the field in a negative way.

You would think between the last two head coaches at TN that they would know if there is a position where you don't skimp or mess around, it is the S&C coach.

Guess not.

Watching our team play then watching others it seems like our players are not being developed. Look at the Kentucky game they are able to run against Georgia. We on the hand could not gain a yard in Georgia. Our defensive backs are lost most of the time even with our head coach being this great defensive guru. Missouri looked terrible against us but seem to be improving weekly while we are getting worse weekly. I don't know what the issue is but something is terribly wrong and it's not just the terrible quarterback play.

Imo, the qb play is the whole problem, he drags the whole team down, if Maurer ever goes back in the game just watch the intensity the players play with; in every position. Poor qb play affects the ol, rb, wr,and the whole defensive team by their mindset. Ut is playing with not much intensity at all. Our whole team improved last year on both sides of the ball immediately when Maurer started his first game. And it will be the same this year if he starts again.

If you had been reading this and other boards, you would know that we have a few positions where we do not yet have SEC caliber players and depth. When your players are less talented, they are being out played by better talent. We have no power running backs who are not true Freshmen, only one SEC caliber inside linebacker who is not a true Freshmen, no SEC TE who is healthily or not injured, One QB who is not injured or a true Freshman and everyone nows that one is inconsistent. Regardless of how much practice, better talent wins most of the time if they have similar experience. Wen are playing with essentially one Pruitt recruiting class because of the when he was hired in his first recruiting year and the Covid this year eliminating Spring practice and adversely effecting Fall practice for many of our true Freshmen. I would appreciate seeing how you would performed under similar conditions. It very easy to sit at your computer and criticize someone when you have not experienced similar circumstances.

I thought this was Pruitts 3rd year here? Unless I am wrong and I could be he has 3 years of his own recruits, plus the 1st year he was here. And by the way I am happy with hc, all but qb, I can see improvement in many other areas. I just think fix the qb and we will look like a much better team.

The first recruiting class was cobbled together in a very short time, but ok. The staff's recuiting has been good since they have had full cycles to attract players.
Ironically, Dooley's good class was the one put together in just a few weeks. Ouch, I just remembered that optimistic feeling.

Ask again later. I just got back from the liquor store where my wife dropped her driver's license down a sewer grate. I used a tape measure and duct tape to fish it out and it's the only thing I've caught in two years.

Haha, did that once at the zoo with a stick and piece of gum to pick up a $10 bill from once of the dangerous cat exhibits.

JP needs to trust the coordinators he hired and quit being a micromanager at this point in his career.

If he has to approve every offensive play or call 1/2 the defense, he is not allowing those he hired to do their job.

Yet at the same time everyone was happy when they heard JP was pushing Chaney for more chunk yardage plays and longer passes? I’m sorry, but you can’t have it both ways. I want CJP to push the coordinators and get involved when we aren’t seeing results.

We had 39 rushing on GA. JG had -40, that’s why the stat line looks that way.

So KY with a mobile QB and only throwing a handful of passes all game rushed for 61 more yards than we did, and walked away with a whopping 3 points.

There’s a whole second half of the season, we’ve lost two we were supposed to lose and one we weren’t. Can we chill with the meltdowns for a bit?

We've gotten blown out by 3 teams that's not the same as losing to who you're supposed to

He salvaged what he could of Buthche's recruiting class, but it was not "his" class. The next two classes were much better and it appears this next class will be the best we will have had in many years.

Georgia St
BYU
Kentucky

Know what those three have in common? Besides the obvious...

They have less talent...

AND..as difficult as this is for some here to believe, pandemic doesnt mean limited to the Knoxville area..

Our whole team improved last year on both sides of the ball immediately when Maurer started his first game. And it will be the same this year if he starts again.

Pruitt post game after a decent JG performance:
ā€œJarrett did some really nice things out there todayā€

After a bad JG performance:
ā€œJG had some really nice throws out there todayā€
ā€œAfter a loss the qb gets too much blameā€

After a good game by Maurer:
ā€œI’ll have to look at the tapeā€
ā€œBut JG has a really nice throw out there todayā€

After announcing Maurer the starter:
ā€œHe’d have to have a really bad week of practice not to start, but JG WILL playā€
ā€œJG is going to play and he’s going to help this team win football gamesā€

[Translation]- ā€œI need you to screw up so I can justify putting JG back in there, Maurerā€

It took all of one half of ā€œbadā€ play by Maurers standards 4 starts later for that justification to surface and Pruitt pounced like a lioness on a hyena.

Can’t say we weren’t warned if you can read between the lines of coach speak.

When exactly would they have been developed, in the spring? Cancelled. During the summer, wasn’t allowed. During fall camp? All of the DBs OL WR and QBs except for JG missed almost all of the practices.

JG is no good and Chaney isn't developing anyone else apparently and his play calling has been equally as bad as JG for most of the year.

Hard to develop when their not available, no spring, no summer, and missed all of pre season camp with injury and Covid, and BM is still only 75-80% recovered

There’s no way Chaney has went dumb, this is making Chaney look bad. He is used to throwing the ball more, does he not have any say so who he wants at qb? As far as Weinke I’ve not seen anything I like about him, he needs to go ASAP and take Friend with him.

There is a difference between pushing a coach for more chunk yardage plays and requiring to know what every offensive call is and then changing it if you want to.

Florida had all of those same issues plus a recent outbreak, and they beat Missouri yesterday down 22 players by a larger margin than we did.

So how long have you been on Pruitt's staff?

It's pretty pathetic when you're implying that Kentucky has better talent than we do. And suggesting he has one recruiting class is the very essence of prevarication.
The truth hurts sometimes and some people are unable to accept the truth. The fact is they have had better talent for the last 3-4 years, except at QB when they played a WR there. As it turned out, their running game was almost unstoppable for most teams that year. 0ver the last few years, they have won 9-10 games and we have not won 10 games in what seems like forever. We are gaining in talent and if we can keep this year's class together, which I believe we will, we will likely be back ahead of them in talent again.

Anyone who would say Kentucky has better talent than we do is just a willful liar, plain and simple. There is such a thing as recruiting services that rank high school players - you might want to look up what our class rankings have been compared to Kentucky's the last few (or several) years.

This argument doesn’t fly against GaSt, BYU and Ky...sorry. And BTW, we aren’t getting paid millions of dollars to do this job. Pruitt is, and he is failing magnificently.

You can review the recruiting rankings and see that Kentucky does not have more talent than Tennessee. Kentucky has a real coach, and that is the difference.
