Players Leaving/ Scholarships

LOL . I've been reading this thread for several days and still do not know if a coach can by statute can pull scholarships from players.

They can't, read the bylaws all you want. It's the whole reason why they passed guaranteed scholarships, just google that. Or read any recent article on it concerning p5 conferences. But they can doing everything from nicely suggesting to downright bullying kids to try and force them into transfer or going medical retirement. This is where some get confused. Most others are just used to the way it used to be and many more aren't even aware of the power 5 autonomous legislation. Most I've spoken with still just think usc is the only school that has guaranteed schollies, even though other conferences started guaranteeing them in 2014 and all 5 had to after 2015.

But few will do enough to look at the actual bylaws. Lazy and ready to accept things what they heard from billy bob on a message board and keep passing it as truth.

Hell, I just read 10 pages on a recruiting thread from vol fans arguing to a bammer that Solomon didn't count toward a class and only toward the 85 scholarship limit. Another strange message board myth and those on the wrong side refuse to even do the minimum to read bylaws, just pass along ignorance.

Many here on both sides of the issue are adamant they have the right answer and I cannot determine which side has the most plausible opinion or facts.

The cliff notes version is @Devo182 posted the NCAA bylaw effective since Aug 2015 that says in football, in a power 5 conference, with regards to a kid who was recruited and was given a scholly his first year it will be good for 4 and a coach can not take it away for athletic performance. If they do something against the law or substantially violate school rules, quit the team, etc. they can remove the scholarship but there is paperwork required to substantiate it. Any other "facts" were either old rules, not applicable to P5 football, or made up. Read the NCAA bylaws if you really want the details or cant sleep waiting on Santa.

One more vote for the "can not take away" side.

The ncaa disagrees with a lot of things that still happen..... players are still run off if they don’t cut it.

My response was to someone talking about pulling a scholly. They can't do that. When I said the NCAA disagrees, I mean there's literally an NCAA bylaw against it. You changed the subject to something there is no bylaw against.

You are talking about "running someone off". Different issue. No one disagrees, as I've agreed with multiple times already, you can suggest, nudge, or pull a Butch and basically bully a kid all at your own risk. No one is debating that. No bylaw against it, and as long as you don't reach the point of verbal assault, it's not criminal. But a kid can always ride it out like Kendrick did. Can't just pull a scholly and that's all this debate is.

Thinning of the roster is okay. Some players will find out they will never start. Good coaches work to find them the right spot to land on another team so everyone is happy.
