Blakely is listed as a TE and we have 2 coming in.
That was the one! He was moved to defense at the end of the season and most likely leaves. I already referenced Lowe and Sean Brown.

I actually had a thought that maybe part of the reason for waiting on hiring/announcing an OC is to recruit who he wants and push out who he wants without any discussion or interference from an OC.

That could be the case as well, who knows.

From what I was told, most of the hinting and nudging is done during exit interviews, before kids leave for break. If or when those kids decide to transfer, is up to them.

And the names I see are of kids that wouldn't contribute under any system. Someone mentioned 9 TEs...go look at that list and tell me you don't see 3 or 4 names there alone.

Yeah, we are definitely over filled in some positions. So maybe we get more news over the break.

Other than Wright I think we'll have to get the numbers down by February to sign anyone else. We'll sign Wright regardless of numbers but we'll have to get a few guys off the roster to avoid being way over the 85.

Only EEs count immediately. The rest we have until the scholly kicks in next school year.

So far we have opened up 16 spots from graduation/transfers/retirees/draft declarations...we just signed 19 and added Solomon as a transfer for 20 total...we have to free up 4 spots just to draw even there...anyone else we sign would mean another spot has to open up

The numbers don't have to be down until the new signees actually enroll, as they are not on scholarship until then.

I usually don't like to get into discussions on players who should leave the program, but I get your point. Saban has had a lot of success in this area. CJP should be allowed to have the players he wants on the roster. I am sure he and his staff will sort things out.

I many cases, it is not a negative for a player. It may be a disappointment, buy in the long run he may catch on somewhere and be a starter and not a bench warmer. I think it would work out well for most guys.

Bumphus can play DE and most likely is in his way there. They didn’t have a TE with his size but now we have two. DWA and Wolf are in their last seasons Warren and Brown are receiving TE’s that the jury’s out on. Pope is safe if he’s able to play but he may be a medical candidate. Are the other TE’s scholarship? I see us as having 4 scholarship TE’s pending recruiting results next season.

"Bump" played DE in high school. (and most anywhere else he was needed, yea that good) I always though he would make a really good DE. He had the knack for knowing where the ball was going and the quickness to get there at or ahead of the play. He has plenty of size. Just hope he is moving to DE and it's not too late in career to excel.

What if a player comes in and counts against the yearly recruitment number and then the staff elects to redshirt the player. Does it change the current number(25) or do we gain an extra recruitment the next year ? All the red, blue , gray shirts and or when they enroll just creates a complete mess if the fan is trying to keep up with it.

I know It is part of the game to basically run off some players that are not contributing. And I’m sure there are times players just give up and are not earning their scholarship, but in general I don’t like this. If a player is willing to commit to the university and continues to work hard he should continue to get a scholarship regardless of success level. I don’t think it’s even right to talk about these players here on this forum.
I have no problem talking about players with medical issues and so forth. I do think it’s a good idea for players who can’t succeed despite their effort to look for opportunities elsewhere and we should help them with that.

I think it's totally reasonable to pull a scholarship based on performance. Look, If I'm on an academic full ride and get a 2.9 GPA, I'll be on probation the following semester and on my own the next. We keep calling them "kids" but these players are young adults who should be incentivized to give their all because their scholarships depend on it.

Redshirting has no effect on class numbers. It just preserves eligibility in the 5 years to play 4 mentality.
