This hasn't been talked about much tonight so I thought I would go ahead and start a thread.

Good?
Bad?

What's everyone else's thoughts on this?

Hard to say since the offense could hardly stay on the field long enough to get into any semblance of a rhythm. I
ve maintained for a few weeks now that if we're going to have so many 3 and outs and QB issues, I wish we'd run the ball a lot more.

Tough to call plays against 8 man fronts with an average OL, fumbling RB, and no passing game.

Horrible. There is no rhyme or reason to the play calling. It is too obvious if it is a run or pass based on the formation. Stephens looked pretty good and the offense still could do nothing against NIU. NIU. Terrible.

They upped it to 64% run and only 36% pass tonight.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Run the ball. We have given up on the run every game. If we are going to go 3 and out, at least we will wear out the D-line and run the clock.

In fairness, I do have to give Clawson credit for the 2nd to last drive where he just got in the I and beat them to death with Foster. Though I think they abandoned it a little bit on 3rd and goal when they didn't have to.

A different thought on "playcalling". Listening to Bob Kesling tonight made me think of Bob Uecker in Major Leauge. I just imagine all his calls on this team as the "juuust a bit outside" bit.

Looks like the coaching staff has been focusing on the QB postion and the QB/RB exchange, and neglecting the offensive line.

Not being able to run the ball against NIU is a bad omen for the remainder of the season. Most SEC teams have a better defense.

Auburn is in a similiar spot. Got a new OC with his own system that is not only new but is completely void of a competent QB.

I'm actually holding out the Clawson is a cery cerebral coach and understands the game, but the whole offense just looks out of sync in a very odd way. It's just...weird how lethargic they look sometimes.

I dont know why the call some of the plays they do. Like the pass play down on the 3 yard line.

I just dont understand why there was no play action at all called or even a screen pass. I really thought on the drive where Foster ran the ball a lot play action on 3rd down would have definately worked better than rolling out to the short side of the field

I think the G-gun should go. Every pass attempt out of that formation this season has been a flop. Teams know we will just run it. NIU stopped it every time.

The absolute dumbest call I've ever seen.

We had it 3rd and goal, and Clawson decides to roll Stephens out to his left. The kid looked as though he'd never thrown the ball across his body in his life, and had to stop when he realized he had four NIU defenders in his face. It was the dumbest thing I'd seen all day.

Not sure about dumb...

1. We couldn't run it in for a TD from there

2. He didn't get outside the pocket fast enough

3. The OL didn't block anybody on the play...as usual

It was bad. They should've run a boot to the right, where at least he wouldn't have to set and throw. The kid is a little mobile, but he's no Martin out there.

They need to get the ball in his hands more. Not sure what would be the best way. UT used to like to run a lot of WR screens or reverses where he has the option to throw it downfield.

I dont know if its the dumbest but I would have to say its up there. He lost 12 yards on that play. We seem to have been running it ok up to that point . I dont know why we couldnt have at least tried to run it in. we could have tried twice if necessary.

His passes haven't look very impressive so far. I'd rather Stephens is throwing the ball.
