Play Clock

Conspiracy theories. Come on. The clock didn't work on a bunch of Bame series either. Get real.

Bob K mentioned the clock's being out on our end of the field only, and I could see that it was out on tv. I know that the one at the other end of the field worked at one point later in the game b/c they showed it, too. And I hesitate to say it for fear of being wrong, but we did have a delay of game penalty on that series, I think.

Y'all feel free to correct me.

Well you just pissed me off because you failed to read anything in the thread obviously...

No one is using the play clock as an excuse for losing. DOH. Just seemed 'funny' because of the timing, as I've stating atleast four times already.

Nothing worse than another team coming on an opposing teams board and complaining about sore losers and excuses.

Point taken and I am sorry for making you mad.....

What do you expect with a thread like this....

Please, you didnt loose due to the play clock going foul on one drive and due to a couple "miss calls" as you claim.

Talk about sportsmanship...

I will not razz anyone about winning today, yet you accuse those that do of bad sportsmanship. On the other hand these "accusations" are FAR more offensive and obsurd as well as UN-sportsmanlike.

That being said don't get mad at me, I am not trying to tick anyone off.

Chill out, I was being sarcastic. By the way, it's "lose" not "loose"..

Why don't you all get a play clock that works down there and you won't have to hear about it.

I don't get it. If we aren't allowed to complain during a loss how are we supposed to get over it? If it makes fans on our own message board feel better to discuss the shadiest play clock this side of the Mississippi then it is their right to do so without some opposing fan coming in here and going "Oh come on guys, the clock didn't beat you, we did." You think we don't know that? This loss was humilating, and we are going to rationalize it on any number of things to help heal the wound. This isn't bad sportsmanship, this is called being human.

Now I'm not usually one of those conspiracy theorists, but did anyone else find it strange that the play clock was "broken" on what I consider one of our most important drives of the game? Then the exact moment Bama got the ball back, it immediately started working again?

Coincidence?

what make it even funnier is that the same thin g happend at fla amazing

I for one think there's a slight possibility they do screw around with the clock sometimes. All the modern technology and they can't get a play-clock that works correctly?

We are missing the point. Let it go. The outcome would have been the same. The clock is not the problem the state of the program and coaching is. Had they been coached properly it would have been a speed bump versus the mountain you are making out of it.

No, you're obviously missing the point. The point was that this a very strange "accident." We all know it didn't really affect the outcome and that wasn't the point of the thread - but I guess you didn't read any of it.

We can discuss the happenings in the game without people telling us to stop using it as some sort of lame excuse...

I understand the point exactly stated the exact thing about the Clock and the reason for it to my wife. Point taken. Here is the roller coaster that is being created. Clock theory and will overstreet comments about start time Lincoln Financial Telecasts Ainge a Vanilla quarterback the penalties and so on and so on. Bottom Line we still got our butts kicked because we felled to show up......

agreed, I have several clocks in my house and I keep them all working with little difficulty. Why can't a guy make a clock that only has to count 25 seconds work? I dunno
Cheers

Please- don't confuse the cheap dime store time pieces in your house to a football play clock. The segmented display you see in the stadium is relatively simple, but behind that inauspicious set of lights is a very complicated system. I can't say for sure which model they use in Bama, but the Timetronics 2500 was for years the gold standard in play clock systems. Even still, the 2500 required about 40 man-hours of preventative maintenance between games, and a crew of 12 to operate during a game. My uncle lost an arm to a TT2500 when he was just 18, so excuse me if I'm a little sensitive when someone belittles them.

Man, I'm truly sorry for the offense. None intended I assure you. I really didn't understand the hidden complexities of how the playclock system works and all the behind-the-scenes effort to make it come off without a hitch on game day. You've really opened my eyes and I am grateful for it.

[by the way, one of the best posts I can remember in recent history :worship: ]

I'm jumping in late on this one because I forgot all about this issue. But sorry Bama fans, I was at the game and it wasn't just one drive, it was all of them. The play clock read 00 on every drive of the game while we had the ball, and immediately worked when they had it.

No malfunction. It was literally every time.

I wish the game had been on a national level, to keep everyone honest. I believe the refs would have called a few things different, they were penalty happy.

on the Alabama fumble, one if there is a possibility of a fumble, the ref should not blow the whistle so that it can be reviewed.

I remember some crazy calls, there was one were Hall caught a ball and someone had to run him down, but they still called pass interferece, I am not sure how that works if you are 6 feet away from a defensive player when you catch the ball

I remember many 3rd down situations the refs found a penalty for Bama to continue the drive, but when Hall pushes off right in front of a flag happy ref, no flag. Even though UT was called for a questionable pass inter on the previous play.
I would have loved to have seen some replays on questionable calls, maybe they were all right calls, it just seemed there was a double standard.

I thought that too
Bama's a bunch of cheating bastards

you are right, during the play clock issue DJ Hall was open and we couldn't put pressure on a sorry QB with two offensive line starters suspended. They wouldn't have scored 41 points if it weren't for that clock.

Please, they had the momentum in the first half. It killed me to watch it.
