Play Calling (Serious)

Our D didn’t suck so bad....it wasn’t great but if you expect it to be your very optimistic
The stats were close for both teams so I guess there D sucked too. We shot our self in the foot to many times and helped them out

I think our D is good but today was missing after the first quarter. We let them run up and down our a$$.

We are supposed to have a HC who is one of the best DC in the nation previously. We beat a ranked Auburn. So how and why did our D suck so bad tonight?

Literally every time SC ran the ball I cringed because we couldn't stop them. They knew they didn't need to throw because we couldn't stop the run and then pump out massive 60+ yard throws.

I wish I had answers as to why our defense played poorly. there seems to be a lot of missed assignments and bad tackling

cant tell how much is on the players vs the coaches. I'm sure some blame could go on both groups

I believe someone will pass JG in the QB department next year. Kid will have to change dramatically to continue as QB for Vols. I don't think the vols will put up with this next year at all. If Pruitt tries this stuff next year then people will begin jumping ship again. This is his year of grace. Not next year if he makes the same mistakes. So someone may very well beat JG out of a QB job next year. Afterall, he definitely doesn't bring anything tangible to the table like being a threat to run like Dobbs. Matter of fact I can't really see any pluses at all in his column can you ?
Good QBs would have found a way to win tonight.....even with the bad defense. He had a chance to lead the offense down to score in the end and it came crashing down with him playing. Just don’t have “it”. And the defense was bad also.

But everyone says JG has a great arm? Palmer dropped 2 long throws. But how many times we throw behind the line of scrimmage versus how many times we attempted a mid-to-deep ball?
JG may have a great arm but at this point he lacks the touch that great QB’s have. On the one ball to Palmer it should have been thrown about 10 more yards and it is a TD.

JG had 70% completion. Why not throw if everyone wants to state this percentage? How many fumbles did we have by RBs?

Right where you wanted to be was with an extra 3 points btw. Would have made the 2nd half start with momentum.
Right where you wanted to be was with a lead, on the road as an underdog in the sec.
And I believe we scored first in the second half.

I would have pushed for the 1st half FG too. But, maybe 55% to 45% in my mind. As far as the play calling today, I was actually VERY impressed. We played to our strengths and had a lot of success and long drives. We hurt ourselves with some offensive procedure penalties.
But the play calling was a breath of fresh air. Had we ran up the middle on 1st down 90% and tried to throw from 5 step drops all night, we would have gotten beat 45-7. Our defense was pourous tonight and cost us this one. That and the fact the stupid SEC officiating did not review the obvious goal line fumble that would have turned the game big time.

This...also we ate up the clock with 23 first downs. Think we had it for 33 minutes which is a must with little depth.
