Play calling against BG

I doubt players are talking about the game plan to students. I expect nothing fancy, no need to pull out the tricks the first game. Dominate the first half, let the backups get some game experience, and get ready for Oklahoma.

Just line up and kick there azz real quick and show nothing you really got and get ready for Oklahoma, thats all we need to do Saturday.

The forward pass was once a trick play in CFB, so was the wildcat formation. Football evolves just like everything else. If CBJ has the ability to create something new that works, I'm all for it.

Idk if this is real or not. Doesn't seem that players would talk about the game plan, but then again, some of them do go running down I40 so who knows. This does have me wondering what a defensive formation that has never been used looks like. Any ideas?

Now you guys know I'm not going to give hints who it might be! If I did I would never have any friends! I'm just trying to "pad my stats" so to speak.

That's true. I don't know maybe a 5-1-5. 5 d-lineman with one linebacker and 5 corners? I have seen,in high school, a 4-4 where the d-ends stand up a yard off the line of scrimmage.

The main thing you will see in the DeBord/CBJ offense will be at least 2-3 trick plays a game.

I would normally expect a relatively vanilla first game with BG. BUT with a new Offensive Coordinator calling the plays, I think Butch tells him to open it up more to make a statement of our identity with Debord.

I'd just about lay money that the Defensive play will be 4 DE's on the line at the same time.

Maggitt
Barnett
Phillips
Vareen

Speed rush!!

You could be right. I would take Philips out and add a linebacker to blitz different gaps.

I think the coaches said, earlier in the summer, they had practiced it.

At least I seem to remember reading it somewhere.

We are fools if don't play anything but Vanilla just to get the W.... we don't need to show OK anything to plan for...

A lot of our running plays are designed with bubble screen options, depending on what the QB reads from the D in-play. They did not call all those bubble screens, many of them were byproducts of what the Ds did.

Plus, our running game blew and screens are basically a part of the running game.

Doesn't change my opinion on them at all. Call less plays with bubble screens even as a third or fourth option. Your second comment is another reason why I wanted less then and still do. I don't mind some of them but geez they wore it last year, IMO.

Anyone complaining that our coach is smart enough to call plays just so OK has extra stuff to get ready for is a dum****

Just saying.. its smart

Let's not get too spunky in here ... Butches 10 man defense didn't turn out that great either. :eek:hmy:

USC 2014. Would have been talked about a lot more except Dobb's heroics upstaged this preceding disaster.

Not Butch's finest moment to be sure.

South Carolina's best play has been a fake punt. Early in the game but they look bad on offense and defense.

I'm with you on this. Although sometimes trick plays can set up other trick plays. Like if we ran a reverse against BG, run a similar set up against Oklahoma , but have the receiver or rb throw it down field. Auburn had a lot of success with those type plays when Newton was there.Still not a fan myself. But whatever wins games works for me.

I hope they're wrong. Trick plays are the dumbest things in football. When you have the advantage, just kick ass. Don't screw around. Butch, bless his heart, has a tendency to call stupid ass **** from time to time.

Pardon my asterisk.

Ask George Quarles, who has a 226–14 record in 16 years at Maryville high school about trick plays working

I'm wondering if they use the triple option with the Hurd and Kamara look to make OU spend a lot of time preparing for it or don't use it to surprise OU... It wouldn't surprise me either way

Faking a punt on 1st down never works
