Places on the strip

I agree...BWW tends to attract a rough crowd. I somewhat liked the strip from 2000-2004. It seems like the cops got very strict about public intox and liquid knoxville brought in the rednecks and thugs who liked to fight. So go downtown to the brewery or barleys. The strip is now an embarassment in my opinion...too much of a redneck hangout.

Is there such a thing as a good BWW?

I always liked the place the Roaming Gnome (if it's still there) and whatever it was called before that. Had good times at Hanna's and Sunspot too.

Charlie Peppers? Isn't that what it was before roaming gnome? Or am I just completely Fade Routing this one?

Roaming Gnome is not bad....However, I remember it as the original Ruby Tuesday's. Damn I'm old.

Me, too. I think the 60's through part of the 70's was probably the best times for the strip. I know that's really ancient, but it was before it became more of a war zone along with all the old frat and sorority houses scattered over campus; although it has had a couple of bounce backs over the years. The strip was much longer ..... reaching all the way down to the Twin Light near the World's Fair area where Swamp Rat and the players then hung out quite a bit. Jeez, I'm old. It was an accident....I never had any idea I would live this long. :hi:

Animal Hour at the Gnome is pretty good. But all in all, the strip is pretty fair. I really only go to Tin Roof, the Gnome, along with Half Barrel. As long as I'm with my friend's I'll have a good time.

That would be amazing. I doubt it though because there is one just down the way. Unless they are moving the Kingston pike one there.

The only one that I know of is West of West Town. 2 completely different customer bases. I think they would both do well.

You can never go wrong with Half Barrel. Tin roof is the newest bar I can think of or Goal Post Tavern (OCI). There really isn't anything new on the strip right now.

True, as long as you aren't hell-bent on having even decent service or somewhere to park your car, you're good to go. I've been to the Half Barrel 3 times, and every time the service has been abominable. Add to that the fact that one of those times my friend's got their cars towed because the lookout in the back of Copper Cellar calls the tow truck as soon as somebody parks their car in that back parking lot and goes into HB. You would think that a decent business would put up huge signs saying "Our restaurant has no parking. If you have parked in a lot adjacent to this establishment, it WILL NOT be there when you are ready to go home at the end of the evening." That doesn't seem like too much to ask.

Parking on the strip during games is :loco: if you ask me. Just park and walk, buy 2 big beers for $8 each at the Barrel, and you're set until the waitress comes back. They're always cool about you flagging them down, too. The bar itself is whats insane there. You can't ever get a seat unless you're there hours before hand, but then again, I am. :) But I prefer to sit outside on the back patio and watch the other games before ours.

They closed due to lack of parking. They have a store in Turkey Creek. The parking was the issue according to a neighboring business.

Parking had little to do with the decision, their sales numbers remained string until they closed, despite the poor quality of the food and service.

The issue that BWW had was that the chain is requiring all of its franchises to upgrade to a certain model, and the footprint that the location sat on could not support what needed to be done without completely tearing it down and starting over, and the landlord was unable to put that together.

The building itself has some serious issues and will likely have to be demolished before a new tenant builds there.

Do yourself a favor and stay the hell away from the strip. Downtown has gotten so much better over the past 4-5 years.

Barleys, Old City, Downtown Grill, Market Square >>>>>>>>>>>>> anywhere on the strip

The strip is just a **** stain on Knoxville

The quality of food vendors is up on the strip with Jason's Deli and Mellow Mushroom. The bars where always dirt holes, and likely always will be. I break out in a rash when I even think about the Tap Room. They had this big makeover planned for Cumberland, but nothing ever happened.

Nice update, thanks. I was just repeating what I had been told by business close by. I hope they do tear that place down and build something a little more "Tennesseeish". The building sucks.

Wow, way to be a "negastripper"! I for one am not happy with the direction that the strip has gone but I'm not going to walk all the way from downtown after having the requisite pre-game brew quantity. If you want to walk that far go ahead, I actually like going to all of the haunts that are left like Stefanos and Copper Cellar and some of the new ones mentioned here. My wife and I still go to the strip regularly for Stefanos. Love hearing the Big Orange Banditos too! I will continue to support the strip (like the Vols) and hope for the best.

Good for you...the strip is pretty redneck. On gamedays, pretty much everyone I know (mostly 28-32 year old) parks and goes straight to the tailgate. We avoid the strip like the plague.
