Pizza time?

Alex Acosta gave him a slap on the wrist.

OK, this broadly answers my question. The Florida prosecutors apparently declined to prosecute. It was left to the feds to do something about it, even though it wasn't a strong federal case. So that's how it ended up in Acosta's lap. It sounds like Florida may have been the jurisdiction that carried out the sentence, though?

Alexander Acosta - Wikipedia

Acosta has publicly stated that the agreement was determined by prosecutors to be the best available solution -- the prosecution team believed conviction by trial in federal court was highly unlikely, Florida state authorities had already passed on indicting Epstein for the same activities, and so a deal was negotiated that was designed to put an end to Epstein's sexual activities with minors by requiring him to turn himself in to the state of Florida, serve jail time, and publicly register as a sex offender; the deal also required Epstein to pay restitution to identified victims.[33] Defenders of the approach point out that if the federal prosecutors had taken no action -- which would have been typical in a case with inadequate evidence for a federal trial -- the abuse may have continued.

The non-prosecution agreement and Epstein's subsequent lenient treatment while incarcerated have been the subject of criticism, with one reporter calling the agreement “the deal of a lifetime.”[32] In a 2011 public letter about the case, Acosta expressed dissatisfaction with the terms of Epstein's incarceration by Florida, stating: “Epstein appears to have received highly unusual treatment while in jail.”

Wait a minute. Which administration was it that made a state prosecutor responsible for Jeffrey Epstein's lenient plea deal in Florida (Alex Acosta), their Secretary of Labor ? I can't believe that some of you are still blaming the other side for Epstein and his unjustifiably light sentence. Both sides of the political aisle have their hands dirty with this guy. There is no getting around that fact.
You're right... that plea deal happened under the Bush administration. And guess who was a huge Bush supporter until low-energy Jeb dropped out... Les Wexner. The guy is almost certainly a pedo... basically surrendered his 5th Ave mansion and power of attorney to Epstein. Thanks to President Trump for finally getting him off the street.

If Epstein had blackmail materials, could it be used against the people he had the dirt on?

Possibly. It depends on what he has, whether the gov’t picked it up in their raid of his apartment, and whether it’s worse than what he’s accused of.

I don’t do federal law other than maybe some disability claims. I have had several clients charged simultaneously in both state and federal and so what I know is pretty limited. The federal sentencing procedure is really limited. It’s basically a big calculus equation and cooperating is a big chunk of the equation.

Is there a reason why discussion has only been on federal prosecutors here? What happened to the state(s)?

I don’t know much about the facts of this case. Really not much more than headlines at this point. I know he got a sweet deal from somebody who is now a member of Trump’s cabinet. Not sure what position he held at the time. I don’t know why Florida declined to charge him, if that happened.

There are some interesting procedural aspects to this case. I read the popehat guy’s thread and the one he quoted and I may do some more reading on it. The issue of setting aside a prior agreement or declination agreement is apparently settled law but it seems pretty effed.

Trump congratulated Epstein for liking young women, just like him. Around about the time he had an affair with a porn star as he cheated on his wife, who had just given birth. Then Trump paid her off, using a go between to hide the transaction.

Sorry. Trump supporters are in NO POSITION to cast aspersions at Clinton for using the guy's plane.

I'm sure that Clinton has nothing to worry about. We all know that Bill would be above stuff like that.

Hypothetical here, but lets say Bill is involved in this somehow along with Trump. I mean, the three were at least acquaintances, if not buddies (Trump even commented about how Epstein "liked them young" in one of his weird interviews). Will those of you wanting Bill and Hillary to head to prison support the same thing for Trump?

Outside my hypothetical, I don't think anything will come of this for Trump, Clintons, or any other high profile politician/celebrity.

Also, am I on the same board that screeched about "innocent until proven guilty" regarding Trump and other Republicans for other investigations? That doesn't extend to the other side of the aisle, eh? The Clinton hate is real I guess.

Since the Feds brought charges against Epstein, then he is going down and likely is guilty (in my humble opinion, of course). Feds don't waste resources on charges they can't prove.

I'm not defending Epstein: dude is a registered sex offender. I'm just curious why Bill and Hillary should be rotting in a prison cell somewhere because some idiots on 4Chan and Reddit decided they must be guilty, but Trump gets a pass, even though he even stated himself that he has known him for 15 years back in 2002 (32 years as of 2019) and called him a "terrific guy."

Looks an awful lot like a bunch of partisan bull**** honestly.

Of course, Trump should be treated the same if guilty. However, I think you will find out that Clinton will be more likely to be involved.

As odd as anything else here is the fact that no one seems to have a good explanation of how Epstein got his money.

You seem more agitated today than normal.
It looks like supporters of both parties are doing this... but I can't believe how much "guilt by association" material I've seen on the internet today. It's a race to see who can attach the other (Trump or Clinton) to Epstein as much as possible. It's pretty obvious that they were both friends with him and socialized with him quite a bit. Now, Clinton did take donations from him... which is bad but Trump is on record calling him a "terrific guy" which is bad too. Neither one looks great right now.
