Big fan. I've seen them 3x. Twice before the broke up and the last time on the reunion tour.

Like FB too. Mullet, you should try the album called Frank Black and the Catholics (see below) -- it rocks and has great, interesting songs. His more recent one is good too but a more mellow sound.

I actually heard Frank Black before knowing who the Pixies were. I first heard Headache on the Teenager of the Year album when it first came out. I've like them ever since then.

I have listened to some pixies and I like whatever I have heard. I want to be a fan, but I feel overwhelmed -- they have sooo many albums. Any advice on where to start? A beginners guide to the pixies is what I need.

Surfer Rosa is the best starting point IMHO. Next I'd go with Doolittle.

In order of release (order of my favorite):

Come on Pilgrim (3)
Surfer Rosa (1)
Doolittle (2)
Bosanova (4)
Trompe Le Monde (5)

Most of the other stuff looks like repackaging, hits, etc.

Live they are pretty much identical to studio so I'd stick with the studio.

Saw the reunion tour. I'll be honest - I've seen them 3 times and it's not much different than listening to the studio work. They reproduce it pretty faithfully, they don't do many (or any) covers that aren't on albums (e.g Head On) and they don't talk much to the audience or each other.

If it's a good venue, it's like listening to the disks really loudly on a good stereo (which is a good thing) and you get to see their expressions and how Joey makes some of those amazing guitar sounds.

Check out Frank Black's Honeycomb - a pretty mellow effort (country-tinged) from him but very tasty.

I have not bought or heard "Honeycomb" yet. I know that he cut it in Nashville with a lot of the best session guys. The old timers who have worked on everything. I need to listen to it. Thanks for the tip.
