Pitt is a very solid team. Kenny Pickett solid? No, of course not. But very sound, good depth, and well coached? Absolutely.

I know they lost Pickett and he sat out on them at bowl game last year (kinda crappy in my opinion), because they would've easily won bowl game with him. But, this year's Pitt squad returned a lot of very solid football players. They are experienced. They are good. Are they great? Probably not. Are they good enough to win the ACC again? Maybe. They don't miss tackles, they stay in position. They have a physical defensive line.

If they can get and keep the USC transfer QB healthy, than who knows. But, right now, they are still the ACC champs until they're not.

I think they'd beat UK. Just my opinion. I think they are much more sound and probably better coached team. Well have to wait and see. UK is a thorn in Florida's side for some reason.....
Send Pitt down to Gainesville and let’s see how they do.

Lots of backtracking today. As late as Friday evening I was being assured that some of us overvalued Pitt, and we’d boat race them — while being relentlessly mocked for predicting a hard fought nail biter. Not to mention many said we’d run through Pitt on the ground like a knife through hot butter, because trash WV ate them up.

Now, today, Pitt is one of the toughest teams we’ll face this year, were indeed physical upfront, and they could very well repeat as ACC champs.

I’m not looking for a tit for tat on here, just saying …..this joint is hilarious. Everyone is an expert, including me…..🥴

Hindsight—the great equalizer.

They'd win if healthy. If they didnt lose they're starter Vols may have lost. So, based on your logic: Florida will beat UT because Pitt can't beat UF and it took overtime and injuries for Vols to beat Pitt in overtime, who can't beat UF, because UK beat UF and Pitt can't beat UK because UT beats UK regularly who just barely beat Pitt? Okay....got ya

I never said UT would boat race Pitt. I didn't really feel like we'd win. Unless, you can prove from my past posts otherwise....

What led to those Pitt QB injuries you speak of 🤔

Great pass rush = injured QBs

The only reason the game was close was because of 2nd half miscues. Tennessee wins that game going away but that’s sports. Things happen throughout the game. Highly doubt Pitt would win in Gainesville. Tennessee will beat Florida in Knoxville. Tennessee is the better team.

A win is a win....but I think the jury is still out on Pitt (as it is with all teams at this point). But I am sure that most have noted that the team that Pitt was very fortunate to barely beat last week (WVU) just lost to Kansas by 2 touchdowns.

I was really impressed by their QB. I admit that I didn't watch their game with WVU and I formed my impressions of him based on the final score and what I read here. He was very impressive. I thought the backup played okay, too.

Let's be real. We shouldn't have struggled as badly as we did yesterday. The only reason we didn't win by 3 TDs is because we kept shooting ourselves in the foot over and over again.

I thought Pitt would put up more than they did and for sure thought Vols would put up more than fifty! Considering we roughed up three of their QBs and hung on for the win, we shouldn't be complaining. We didn't play up to the high bar we set, but we hung in and got it done! Let's hope this is this years 98 Syracuse game!

Actually their defense looks much better than last year when we played them and Slovis is no slouch at all.

We didn't play our best game on offense, if we did, we win by three plus scores at least. That can be fixed though fortunately.

I felt like their offense took a major hit when Kedon Slovis went down. He looked like a solid replacement to Pickett.

I love programs like Pittsburgh, they are tough teams that just don't get respect because they are not in the Super Conference. This is why I hate realignment killing a lot of programs like Pittsburgh. (Frankly, Pitt and Syracuse both belong in the B1G).

I wholeheartedly agree. We failed to execute and looked inept at times, but it was significantly self-inflicted. We can't do that regularly and win. Having said it, it's awesome that they found a way to win despite often inept offensive execution, two lapsed defensive plays for long TDs, a blocked punt, fumbled punt, fumbled first down, and Pitt players who couldn't keep their toes and heels off the sidelines. ;)

I worry they’ve been beaten up too badly these last 2 games. Definitely not a challenging division given the team they have and competitor they face.

Both teams made several mistakes at key times and injuries were a big part of the out come. No way this was ever going to be 3td difference. These two could play this game 10 times and I think it would be a one score game either way. Tennessee offense is outstanding but the Pitt defense in the second half was special. Do not sell Pitt short. This will prove to be a good win down the road.

No disrespect to Pitt. They earned our respect, as I said in another thread. I really admired the way they played and how their players carried themselves. And I realize that both sides can look back and see missed opportunities.

But Hooker uncharacteristically overthrowing open receivers time after time resulted in 0 points in the first quarter (we averaged 14 points last season). We also shot ourselves in the foot repeatedly and managed an anemic 3 points in the entire second half (vs. 15 point average last season). It was one bonehead mistake after another, to the point where it felt like we were actually trying to lose the game. The only part of the game where we looked like ourselves was in the 2nd quarter and in OT. The rest of the game it was like we were sleep-walking.

It could very easily have been a 3 TD margin. At the same time, we were very lucky to come out with the win. Both statements are true, IMO.

Their D was pretty sold.

However I (just my opinion) didn’t think Slovis was all that good.

58%, 1td, 1int, and without the one blown coverage combined with the whiff his yardage would have been anemic as well.

Tough……sure…….anything else……we’ll I didn’t really see it.
