I wouldn't miss it one iota.. I find it hard to believe that human beings can find humor in cancer.. It's just sad..

I follow a breast cancer patient's page on FB, and she basically says all this gimmicky stuff in October is offensive and really doesn't do squat to help breast cancer. You want to help find a cure? Donate money straight to a charity that funds research, wear Orange on Saturday and leave it at that.

Also, I just thought of this....isn't there some kind of study that found some teams would paint the visting team's locker room pink because it lowered testosterone and made them less aggressive for the game? Why the hell would we voluntarily introduce our players to all that pink?

I despise gofundme. They take 7-8%. If you want to help somebody out, donate directly to the cause.

I followed a cancer patient's care until she passed away...she knew that it wasn't perfect but she dragged herself and my daughter to that walk every year and bought ribbons and shirts and whatnot...made her feel part of something. Maybe the hope and activity and participation kept her from being offended. Her Facebook page is a shrine to hundreds of friends and family.

How about a gold out for childhood cancer? That would be more appropriate to me. Everyone is aware of breast cancer. It's a horrible disease, but so are many others who don't get near as much attention.

Exactly. Have the team make a charitable contribution to a charity that actually donates the money to research (that was another point the blog I was reading made,a lot of businesses and charities either don't donate a dime off their gimmicks, or only a very small portion of it) and stop merely wearing pink which does absolutely nothing to help find a cure for this disease.

I've said repeatedly that I'm perfectly fine with someone wearing pink or purple or whatever if that's what they choose to do. I've also said that asking fans to do a "pink out" is nothing but a gimmick that will do nothing to help the cause. If someone wants to help the cause of fighting breast cancer maybe a better way would be to organize a fund raiser to donate to cancer research. JMO.

Super, pat yourself on the back. No one is arguing against awareness but most of the backlash seems to be about the idea that these campaigns aren't really helping cancer research which is true. You can be sympathetic and not a blind buffoon at the same time.

Not in an elected capacity...kinda doing a vigilante thing after people wanted to try failed comedy on a disease that killed both my Mom and wife. If Freak wants to kill this thread because a bunch of goons want to laugh at a killer,? All for it...but I'll be damned if I let one of you soulless POS be the last one to bump this thread. I'm pretty familiar with cancer in my family as well. My Aunt is currently battling stage 4 ovarian cancer. I'm aware of butchna's loss and I'm certainly not making light of it. The problem some of us have with these kinds of events is that they truly do not do anything to help cancer patients. Did you know that the same amount of women die today from breast cancer that did 10 years ago? It doesn't sound like "awareness" is really helping does it? It's great to show support to people who are battling such a terrible disease, but how about we actually DO something instead of just wearing a special shirt color. I'm tired of seeing businesses make tons of money off of this. It's sickening to me.

I was a mammographer for over 30years thank you, I am very aware of what you speak about.. My point being was what you said to Butchna, that was not necessary.. you don't know any of our history's.. and Yes I pat myself on the back daily for what I did for so many women over my career.. My husband is a cancer survivor as well.. and we aren't blind buffoons either- must be that gator humor coming out..
