Pigeon Forge--suggestions?

Smokie Mountain National Park is a good stop for someone from out of state. It's also just a short drive to Cherokee to see how the natives are taking back America a nickle at a time.

I hate to correct you but it is "the Wal-Marts":)

This is way off topic but does anyone hate it when people say they are going to "Krogers" instead of Kroger?

I know this is weird but I get so angry, I always want to ask how many are you going to?

actually went to the Forge today to 5 Oaks shopping center. Went to Gap and got a lot of good stuff for pretty cheap prices

My boss hates that place. He said that every where he went they added tip automatically so the service was horrible. It sounds like Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg and larger versions of Helen, GA

Pigeon Forge is an armpit. If you go, you'll spend the whole time eating fast food, staring at taillights as you sit in traffic, and shuffling through outlet stores browsing through cheap plastic crap. Gatlinburg is marginally better, but unfortunately it's the same kind of thing now. I can only recommend it as a jumping-off place if you plan to spend most of your time up in the Smokies.

It pains me to be so negative about a place right in the Smokies, which is basically God's very own country, but these days that whole place is wretched all the way from I-40 to the Open Hearth restaurant at the far end of Gatlinburg. It depresses me every time I have to drive through there to get to that end of the park.

I haven't been through there since the late 80's but this describes exactly how I remember it. Sad to say.

The Smokey's on the other hand are outstanding. I'd rent a cabin outside of Gatlinburg and head into the park most of the time - Gburg will have decent restaurants and is good for a day for when you want some civilization.

Scrap PF. If you must do the Smokeys, head to Asheville, NC and get yourself some Grove Park Inn for a night or two. Best sunrises (and sets) on earth from the dining rooms.

Recommendation on "Where to eat:" Trailhead Steakhouse in Townsend. Top-notch and operated by personal friends of mine. If you're disappointed, I'll buy you dinner. (Not really, but go there, you will love it).

I was at the Pac-Sun there Sat. Oh and about the new coasters at dollywood one was ok but the new wooden rollercoaster was closed the day i was there so i wouldnt know. The price of admission was a lil ridiculous (143$ for 3 people). Id suggest driving up to cherokee tho...good scenery and if you like driving the road is awesome, just remember always accelerate out of the apex haha.

I see Lou Holtz putting a jacket on Steve Spurrier in your new avatar. Did the Columbia Elk's Club finally let Steve in or something?

Actually it was the Moose Lodge.

By the way, if you make me take another picture of you in Knoxville like you did when we went in 2005, I'm walking home.

Only thing that would make that suit any better would be a pair of those white shoes with the gold buckle like cousin Eddie gave Clark in Vacation.:eek:lol:

There's a really nice pub in downtown Asheville called Jack of the Wood; live music and they brew their own beer. It's almost worth a visit to Asheville all by itself.

So back me up on the Grove Park Inn.

That is the most beautiful hotel I have ever seen. I had an Easter Brunch there in their dining room and it was great. Asheville is definately worth checking out. But I do have to say Im a sucker for Gatlinburg. LOL Stay a few days in both!
