Pickens insisted on redshirting.

Unless the rules have changed, moving someone up the depth chart to #2 doesn't burn a RS year.

What stands out most to me is that back in those days, we had enough talent to even consider redshirting a guy like Carl Pickens at all.

Tennessee Football is far more important than Worley's Redshirt year!! If it requires Worley to play aganist LSU, Alabama, South Carolina, or any other team this year then so be it. Hopefully Worley is a team player and is preparing hard to be ready to go in THIS YEAR if necessary. You know playing this year will make him better than a redshirt year. I bet you all would love it if Matt got slightly injured and Worley had to come in for ONE play!!! Wouldn't that be great. You all could have a field day criticizing Dooley.

Most of you on VolNation are so negative about the Vols, Dooley, Simms I question whether you are true fans. You negavols remind me more and more of the MTV generation Gator fans. They had nothing before Spurrier, they are classless, clueless, and any other negative adjective you want to put in front of GATORS.

I would not want to depend on any of you in a crisis, I'm sure the first sign of danger you would run to Mommy. At least Dooley hasn't given up and he never will.

Fulmer let this program slide his last 4 years or so. LameKitten is nothing but trash and he trashed the program further. He recruited criminals, babies, and most are now gone. While I'm on Kitten, his only year here was so called successful due to Fulmer's leftovers not his players. But he beat NO ONE that he was suppose to beat and lost to at least two teams he was favored in. I am so glad he and his overrated DAD are gone. His daddy has one of the worst defenses in the no-defense PAC12.

I'm so glad Dooley is Tennessee's coach and he WILL BE SUCCESSFUL!!!

Why would such a big Vol fan name himself BearBryant?

The situations of Pickens and Worley are somewhat similar, but their attitudes about their coaches asking them to give up their redshirt seasons seem fundamentally different . Let me spell it out. Pickens wanted to redshirt, and now Worley wants to redshirt too. Are you following so far?

Pickens refused to play when Majors called upon him during his true freshman season, but Worley seems willing to play if called upon. Did you see how I did that? Worely finds himself in a similar predicament as Pickens, but he has a different attitude about it . Novel concept. Two situations can be kind of alike but how people handle the situations can be completely different. Wow!

Worley will lose his redshirt season if Sims is injured against the likes of LSU and Alabama. It's not as much of a stretch as people are making it out to be. I'd say it's a less than 50% proposition that Sims will be able to take every single snap for the rest of the season. Alabama alone has injured three straight quarterbacks. I had hoped that Dooley would insert Nash Nance if the unfortunate scenario arose. However, Dooley has made it resoundingly clear that Worley, not Nash, is one snap away.

My Carl Pickens reference was intended to shed light upon Justin's Worley's preference to redshirt but his willingness to enter the game if called upon for the good of the team. Pickens refused to give up his redshirt season. Instead, he packed up his belongings and moved home. Coach Majors was forced to compromise or lose a valuable future player. Worley, by all accounts, would prefer to redshirt this season. Redshirting was his plan from day one during his recruitment. A redshirt season gives Worley three seasons to play if Bray jumps to the league a year early. If Dooley burns Worley's redshirt and Bray decides to stay his senior year, Worley will only have one year of eligibility to quarterback the Vols after Bray matriculates.

Here is a quote from Earnest Hemingway about minimalism in writing. It's referred to as Hemingway's iceberg theory.

"If a writer knows enough about what he is writing about, he may omit things that he knows. The dignity of movement of an iceberg is due to only one ninth of it being above water"

You can't start a new thread until you have replied to the minimum number of threads. Maybe we should have a tooth count. If you don't have the minimum number of teeth, you can't reply to threads in order to build up your post count.:)
