Who is the One Acceptable Loss in an 11-1 Season?

I've always respected LSU the most out of all the West teams. Perhaps it's just their funky color scheme. We'd get 'em back in Atlanta, and with both teams in the top 10, we'd still get our playoff spot.

No loss is acceptable! That's not the mindset of winners. :nono:

Sorry, I can't click on anything that suggests there's any such thing as an "acceptable" loss. But I agree with the others who have said a loss to GT would be the least damaging to our ambitions.

Okay, sorry, my bad, I understand now where you guys are coming from. I did use the word "acceptable" in the poll question. That was wrong, I shouldn't have. Should've put "least painful" to match the "pick your poison" theme.

Mea culpa, you guys were right to protest. No loss is 'acceptable.'

To be fair, "Pick your poison", is not really a rally cry for "lower your standards" or ""acceptable" loss".

Do you want to get bit by a rattle snake or a cotton mouth?

My choice is rattle snake.

I know, but I just can't go there. I won't even utter the word "roll" in front of that other word that starts with a T and/or vice versa.

I know it's probably silly, but that's just me.

It surprises me how many voted for GT. We play in the SEC. Losing to anyone other than an SEC imo shouldn't happen no matter the circumstances.

I would HATE it. But we'd have all season to reverse the damage and it wouldn't count against us in conference play. So that's the thinking.

I hate justifying any losses. But of the options provided, it has to be a close last second loss to LSU. It is the one team I could see the committee not shutting us out for. I know some think Tech and I get the reasoning of losing early and recovering. But I see Tech as a weak enough opponent to make losing to them at any point unforgivable. LSU vs Tennessee is always a war. As long as we don't lose looking like dumbasses, we are OK. And if that is our one loss before the playoffs, that means we still go to Atlanta and win.

Now, why did one person vote for Vandy? Come on, man.

2 so far voted for VANDY; here is why I did; this would mean that VANDY finishes 2nd in the east behind us, with one east loss (us), They are ranked in the top 25, Mushbreath, yellarteeth and vacuumhead, get fired, furthering our quest to have a run like BAMA. Also, by beating BAMA and LSU, we would probably play AU in the SECCG, win and then there is NO WAY THEY CAN LEAVE US OUT OF THE PLAYOFFS. good enough reasons????

Wow great question and a tough one to answer. Here's my reasoning.

If you beat all the big dogs and take care of your business everyone will forgive you for taking a day off and dropping an easy game with your eyes to the next big game. KY is due a good year. I'm going KY. I think you will be forgiven for dropping KY in a season where they are expected to look good, and you play them at thier house.

Unacceptable

Yes I agree why start the season pissed off with a loss -- It almost happened last year and VN was in meltdown mode

11-1 is setting yourself up to be mad.. Vegas says 8.5 wins for us.. Those guys are normally spot on.. To think that there wont be growing pains with new QBs and new OC, plus knowing there is NO DEPTH, NONE, at DT or LB, means any injuries and Vols are smoke and mirrors on D if they go down....again.. Be realistic folks

No. It's Vanderbilt. No matter how well we do, we still lost to those maggots, and listen to their coach claim this is their state in Neyland Stadium. And you need to translate the juvenile names your ignorant fantasy gives to rival coaches. If you are going to make a point, don't make it obvious how truly immature you are.

At least you can spell reason. Too bad you can't understand it.

Actually, that's not at all true. Vegas isn't about being "right"...they're about making money. And they do that the way a cross-cut saw cuts the wood in both directions. They get bettors coming and going. They don't have to be right all the time, they just have to get a lot of action around both sides of the line.

Here's an example. Last season's VegasInsider.com total win projections for the SEC:
  • Their projection was within 1 game of "right" for less than half the teams.
  • They were more than one game off for 8 of the 14 teams in the conference.
  • They were spectacularly wrong with Bama...said they'd win 10, they won 14. Almost as bad with Ole Miss, said 8.5, but the Rebels only won 5.
So over half the time, Vegas is going to get it wrong by a couple games or more. They don't care. They're still raking in their cash.

I'm not for one minute saying I think we'll win 11 games this year. But this thread isn't about what we expect to happen, it's just a fun what-if scenario. So enjoy, and don't worry about Vegas!

Go Vols!

So here's the scenario: Team 121 has an AMAZING season, an INCREDIBLE season, and we end up 11-1. And that one loss is NOT to Bama. We're headed to Atlanta.

That's all a lock.

The question is, who would you prefer the one loss be to? Which would hurt the least, under those circumstances? Remember, trip to Atlanta in December is a lock, so you don't have to figure East standings into your choice.

Oh great. Another thread about losing games. And another thread with a poll about losing games.

How about something positive about Butch and our football team?

Ga Tech. Losing an opener hurts less by end of season. If we beat the SEC competition, we have huge opportunity for National Championship.
