2016 NCAA Football Playoff Prediction

If you are curious about PickSixPreviews.com, here is a chart that shows their prediction success compared to the other major prognosticators:

In 2014 we correctly predicted all four Playoff teams, and it was a clean-cut set of four conference champions with the Big 12 being left out. Last season, we also thought it'd be four conference champions but this year we have a new scenario.

We feel that the Pac-12 champion will finish with 2 losses; South champion USC opens and closes with top 10 matchups with Alabama and Notre Dame while North champion Washington plays Stanford, Oregon, Washington State, and Utah. They actually play each other in the regular season and this would be a rematch in the title game. The Pac-12 is extremely deep and competitive with very few easy weeks.

Next we cancelled out the Big 12. Predicted champion Oklahoma has some major spots to fill, and really should have lost at Tennessee and TCU last year. TCU themselves have an elite defense but several questions on offense keep them out of the discussion here.

We also see Notre Dame losing 2 of these 4 games: Miami, Stanford, Michigan State, and USC.

So we have 4 spots for 3 conferences, and feel this will be the year that a conference gets a second team in. . .

. . . TENNESSEE had Oklahoma beat but blew a 4th quarter lead, gave up a 4th & 14 touchdown in the final minute to Florida, and led Alabama in the 4th quarter. With 18 starters returning, we feel this is Tennessee's breakthrough year and those close losses will reverse as they host Florida and Alabama. The SEC title game will be a rematch with Alabama, and we assume they will run the 11 other games and split the Alabama series.

Two scenarios here:

The first option, i think we are in. In the second option, are we in?

1. We go 11-1 in the Regular Season losing to Bama, but beat them in the SEC Championship Game - should be in the playoffs.

2. We run the table, but lose to Bama in the SEC Championship game - are we still in the playoffs?

I don't think we make it in with scenario 2, but maybe if other things play out right we could. I think that is pretty much the scenario PickSixPreviews is using to place 2 SEC teams in the playoff.

It would be nice to go ahead and beat Alab**a twice.

I doubt it. I think that would keep us out.

Maybe in the 2nd scenario we would simply drop from 1st to 4th. It would depend on what the record of the number 5 team leading into the SECCG is.

We win all regular season games but lose the sec title to bama three points or less and the entire game is close and I could see us still in.

For 2 teams to be in the playoff from one conference, one of the following HAS to happen...

1. The higher ranked team loses narrowly in the conference championship game to a team that is lower ranked, but will still make the playoff.

2. A team very highly ranked, but with one conference loss does not make the SECCG and sits at home while the team ahead of them blows out the other. The team sitting will sneak in if things work out and other conferences beat each other up.

If we run the table, we would be ranked #1 going into the SECCG. If we lost to them narrowly, i think they would still put us in. Just depends on how other schools are doing around the 4,5,6 spot.

The problem i have is that in Option 1, I am also fairly certain that Bama still makes it in with a loss in the SEC Championship Game.

From searching the web a little bit, I found that the Stassen ratings are based off a particular formula that is calculated for each division in college football.

The Stassen Accuracy Formula has been the accepted technique of rating prediction accuracy for 20+ years now. Above, we have compiled the last 3 seasons of BCS/Power5 results, along with the 3-year combined scores (2012-2014).
Below we have compiled the 2014 season results. This year we posted another Top 2 finish - and as icing on the cake, we also correctly predicted the exact 4 teams of the College Football Playoff.
NOTE: Low scores are better, as a zero represents a perfect prediction.

If scenario 2 is a close game, then yes but if they win in a route (which happens in Sbana loss rematches) then No

I think either way, we're in. IF the writer of this blog is correct and both the PAC and B12 eliminate themselves with no team having less than 2 losses.

In either scenario, we will have beaten the reigning champs, Bama, once. Either in October, or in December. Everyone knows it's hard to win twice in the same season against a peer-talent team. So 12-1 gets us in, whether we're SEC Champs or the guys who gave Bama their only regular season loss.

Again, IF the writer is correct about the B12 and PAC.

In both scenarios we split with Bama. The committee would have to determine which game was more important at that time and how close it was. In both scenarios, going in the FIRST game, both teams would be undefeated. So ranking might play a part.

You need to give us what Bama's record is too. If both teams are 11-1 going INTO the SEC, than whoever wins that game gets in. Like another playoff game.

Maybe everyone else in the country drops 2 and they are the best available.

If we get them down, I want a scenario where we can stomp a mud hole in their azzes once a week for two or three years

1...Pray for 0 injuries.

2...Keep the team focused and prepared for each game.

3...Keep the refuse to lose mentality for every game.

The rest will take care of itself.
