This thread is for us to talk about which freshmen are physically ready to either play a lot of snaps or contribute in 2007. I'll list the ones I think are physically ready:

DB Deshaun Barnes - 6'2", 195, 4.4 speed; he has the height, the bulk, and speed to burn; nobody talks about him being a freshmen contributor, but he could see time

DB/QB/ATH Eric Berry - 5'11", 194, 4.33 speed; has a good frame that has bulk already, he has as much weight as Barnes, but is 3 inches shorter; may start by Florida

DT William Brimfield - 6'5", 287; the lowest rated of the 3 DTs we brought in, but has the size to compete for time right away

RB Lennon Creer - 6'1", 202, 4.47 speed; won't see much action with the logjam at HB, but if UT were in a bind, he would be physically ready to be successful

DE Cory Hall - 6'2", 255, 4.7 speed; won't qualify, but is physically gifted as a pass rushing end, overshadowed by Ben Martin and a 2* rating

ATH Gerald Jones - 6'0", 185, 4.47 speed; sometimes a guy might be 6 feet and 185 but look slim, but Jones fills out his frame and is a playmaker; physically gifted

DE Ben Martin - 6'5", 230, 4.5 speed; needs more bulk, but has the height and speed to be a killer edge rusher; once he adds weight to his frame, he'll be a killer

S Nevin McKenzie - 6'2", 210, 4.4 speed; JUCO player, so he had the ability to get to the right size, will lay you out or run with you - could be the key to an SEC title run

WR Kenny O'Neal - 6'0", 195, 4.4 speed; another JUCO who got to the right size - will be the absolute key to a competent offense - L. Coles type player

OL Darris Sawtelle - 6'6", 295; would like a another 10 pounds on the frame, but if he was pressed into action, he wouldn't be physically outmatched

DE Rae Sykes - 6'4", 240, 4.7 speed; another pass rusher as a freshman if need be - doesn't have the bulk yet to be a 3 down starter

CB DeAngelo Willingham - 6'0", 202, 4.4 speed; JUCO guy who's ready to go right now, much like McKenzie - won't get outran, will make tough tackles

I'm torn on LBs Chris Donald and Chris Walker, thoughts?

Deshaun Barnes is not physically ready to play LB. That is what he will play at UT. The Chris's are probably physically ready, but most on the list are not mentally ready for the speed of the game in the SEC.

The 2 juco's will se the field the rest mabie 1 or 2
this is the sec man!! dont look for the freshman to
see the field much till 2008-2009.if any of the dt's
see the field this year that would not be a good
sign.

Good point, I forgot Barnes would switch to LB. Scratch him then, but his measurables would be a good DB.

And again, I specifically started physically ready. I know very few are mentally ready.

*sigh*

You do realize I was only listing those who are physically ready, correct? I never said that they would all see the field. Hence, my listing of Cory Hall, who will without a doubt NOT qualify. Please use the rest of your brain cells.

what about vinson???? i think he could be the next robert meachem but maybe faster.

I see no comparison between the 2. Meachem never went to prep school and didn't stand out until his RS JR year. Vinson will be a SO. Vinson is 6'2", 180, and Meachem as a signee was 6'3", 200.

Vinson seems a bit lean, still. Maybe it's his frame, but I don't see him physically as ready as O'Neal or Jones. Vinson might do well in a Percy Harvin type role in 2007. In 2008, I'd expect Vinson to be our #1 or #2 WR by a mile.

"We recruit every freshman now to play. There's no redshirts at Florida. You're going to play."

Vinson is going to be a freshman. Prep doesnt count off a year.. only JUCO does.. Meachem is also 6-2.. well according to the draft scouts..lol

Hey, everyone forgot about Art Evans.. he was supposed to be a huge playmaker on defense and he is the fastest kid on the team this spring in the secondary.. he's also between 6-1 and 6-2... that's huge for a corner.

Everybody on the list has the physical ability to play if they had to be pressed into action early as freshman but almost all would struggle a little and be a little overmatched with the exception of maybe the JUCOS...the skill position players would have it a little easier, they can let their speed and athletic ability carry them through but the interior players would almost certainly be behind the 8-ball some, strength and technique wise.

You might consider adding Art Evans and Donald Langley to your list both are very atheletic and gifted players and had the benefit of going through spring practice after enrolling early.

Langley will play. That came from Coach Caldwell's mouth. IMO all 3 DT's that were signed will see spots of action, but don't expect much from them.

Art Evans is more 6 foot even not 6' 2" like somebody on here said. He was impressive in the spring, he'll probably see alot of special teams and nickel/dime situations.

Creer will be hard pressed to get carries, him redshirting would not hurt IMO.

Sykes will probably not qualify either.

Eric Berry will see alot of PT returning kicks and getting reps at CB. Antonio Gaines should never see the field barring 2 DBs breaking legs.

McKenzie, Willingham and O'Neal should all find starting positions or significant playing time simply because you do not sign JUCO's unless they can contribute right away. For O'Neal the job is his to lose. McKenzie and Willingham will have to beat out Parrish, Johnson and Berry to see alot of PT.

Sawtelle = Redshirt

Jones has better speed than VIA listed and yes he'll see plenty of PT at returner/receiver

Martin = Alot of 3rd and longs on D, then his sophomore year on will be a starter.

Donald will be a special teams monster and I expect to see him turned loose on the QB on obvious passing downs as well. However, the LB spot is incredibly deep.

Walker is in the same boat as Donald

Vinson well also be a viable option at returner, as well as a receiver that will see quite a bit of action.

This is my list

I thought he was going to play safety.
