He'd make an immediate impact on interior defense. After watching him in person last week, he's more athletic than some give him credit for. A year in the strength and conditioning program will really serve him well.

He is a shot blocking machine....His court awareness will have to improve....and it will. This kid will be a prime example of being "coached up". His defense is fine, with some work on the offensive side he will be a much better option than most guys we will have coming off the bench next season.

You think you have more skillz than him and UT should have recruited you instead?

not unless UT wanted a 6 foot 170 kid who averaged 3 points every 5 games lol.....i never said i was better then him...im just givin my opinion u know you do that on message boards....i just happen to have a lil inside info from having played against him......but my opinion means nothiin....just food for thought

I watched him play several times this year. I didn't see laziness. I saw him get frustrated because he didn't get the ball enough and his team sucks.

I saw horrible teammates with some crappy guards who couldn't get him the ball and would just jack up threes. He dominating blocking shots at the games I went to.

Not to mention - when he did get the ball he was immediately double teamed (sometimes tripled) and he would have to pass it out. Plus the refs around here are harder on him since he sticks out so much.

Will this guy go up and dunk it when he's 2 feet from the basket ?

We need a big man who will go up and dunk over a smaller player.

Chism's the worst about that.

Figured that was the case. I don't mind it - I thought it was hilarious someone was making such a big deal about it.

they have some awful black guards on that team. Phillip needs to get the ball every time down the court.

There, I'll say it.

Ive been watching him play since he was a sophmore. I actually graduated from the same school as him. Each year he has gotten better. This year, its seems his shot has improved dramatically. Either way, he is not going to be a great offensive player. Great defensive player, shot blocker, etc. One highlight from last night actually showed him nailing a 3 pointer, which is amazing if you had seen his shot the last 2 years. He cannot show much this year because his entire team is all underclassman and he just gets doubled even triple teamed, not to mention the crap calls he gets b/c he does stick out so much. Under the right coaching, and out of the crappy high school enviroment, I think he has the potential of being a star player. I go to church with his coach and he said he has been hitting the gym really hard, which shows he actually cares (something he has lacked in previous years)

you really cant watch one of their games without a guard jacking up a 3 every time down the floor. Phillip never gets the ball.

That's what I noticed also. He stayed in foul trouble b/c they were so quick to blow the whistle on him. Get Philip in the weight program, around good players, and he'll be a very nice addition almost immediately. If nothing else, he can give us 5-6 minutes a game where we don't have a huge liability on defense.
