Phil Steele rankings

There is no doubting the fact that you are quite knowledgeable about college football VIA, you articulate your points exceptionally well. Where there is doubt is when you say you “guarantee” we are going to be third in the Pac 10. Sure you called them preseason predictions after the fact but it doesn’t change what was said earlier. You guaranteed essentially that Cal would have a terrible, terrible season. Finishing third is not an option.

I think I said I could guarantee it would anywhere from 3rd to 6th, but I might have spoken a little strong. Let me go check.

I mean hey that is what you think and I respect it. It just shows you think Cal really sucks basicly. Your right to do so sir. I am just shocked if you truly believe that after all you know about CF.

cal has better talent than oregon on both sides of the ball. we also have a better qb, far better WRs, and better coach. the game being in eugene is the only reason why you could have them in #2.

Last season I had Cal 2nd in the Pac 10.

The Pac 10 will be the 2nd best conference top to bottom in 2007. Stacked, to be honest.

Droski, you're my buddy, but sometimes you really frustrate me. The talent gap between Cal and Oregon is less than it is between UT and Cal. Oregon's a pretty solid program, and they have typically gone up and down and up and down. They were down last season and return 2 running backs who would start for the Bears. Dixon will mature, as most underclassmen do. They'll be sick offensively, IMO. Oregon has a favorable conference schedule, and yes, that plays into it. I just don't see why you get so freaking upset and confrontational on this stuff.

By the way, I think Cal finishes 4th, officially.

A lot of times that is the case, but last year Florida was 37th in turnover margin and almost dead last in penalties per game. Just goes to show how good (and maybe a little lucky) Florida really was last year that they were able to overcome those mistakes.

Yeah SI had an article about what makes championship teams and the number one stat they used was TO margin. The two lowest turnover margins that won the BCS national championship are Florida and Tennessee. Bottom line is that team was just flat out loaded.

how i am getting confratational about it exactly? i didn't mean it that way certainly.

Sorry, I guess you weren't. But you react sometimes like I've personally offended you. Cal, in all likelihood, will disappoint you in comparison to your expectations. It happens.

no i can completely understand your logic on oregon. if dixon someone turns into a good qb they will be very good. passion for ones team can many times on messageboard come out as defensive or arrogant. My apologies. I'm merle disagreeing with you, not saying you are an idiot or something.

another thing to understand about oregon's talent is that even though their recruiting ranking have been very good their recruiting has been VERY top heavy (2 or 3 5 stars and a bunch of 2 and 3 star players) and a LOT of those 5 star guys haven't worked out. They are a lot thinner than Cal at almost every position. My $.02

just don't like his picks with Hawaii that high and all those west coast and midwest teams high. The thing I love when people always say towards the end of the year man the SEC is faster, stronger, quicker and just better..........

^sometimes none of that matters. Nowadays W-L record has more to do with rankings than what conference you play in (unfortunately for the SEC). Luckily the BCS takes strength of schedule into consideration, but then again sometimes that isn't enough either.

Phil Steele always has been the most accurate at pre season rankings. I guess that's why he has Bama #17, Tenn #25, and Auburn #41.

Hawaii at 12, South Carolina at 13 (ahead of Florida) and Wisconsin rated as the 4th best team in the Big 10 are a little hard to figure.

hawaii seems to get the boise state / rutgers / west virginia "we think they will have a good record even though they don't play anyone" vote.

anyone ever met any hawaii fans? you think bama fans are wacko rednecks. . .hawaii fans take it to another level. edit: something about island fever gives one delusions of grandeur I guess.

If I was a Hawaii fan, I wouldn't take any trash talk from anybody. The second anybody started talking smack I'd just say "Screw you! I live in Hawaii year 'round."

wow, south carolina at 13?and we should be placed between 10 and 15. Its really important we get placed at a good ranking in the polls. A good example is Auburn was placed low in their undefeated season at the beginning of the year. They didnt make the NC game because of this.

Somehow, I don't think we need to be concerned with that.
