I wouldn't put Arkansas ahead of us, but we all know how much preseason rankings mean.

They have a QB and some good skill players. That's the reason for that. Plus we have a new coaching staff. The staff is good but it's still new.

I never thought I'd say this about a Tennessee team, but I'll settle for 3rd in the East.

As long as the program gets better progressively each week is all I really give a bleep about. That, and 8 games, with a Chick-Fil-A Bowl bid should be a good season for us this year. Next year, we make our return to the other side of New Years.

Steele predicts Liberty Bowl, for the 2nd year in a row.

Arkansas will be the surprise of the SEC this year, book it. A strong running game combined with a QB that has a big arm. The hogs are on the rise.

Yet another preseason prediction that puts us ahead of USClite...

You all might have noticed that the resident USCjr trolls haven't been around much since these predictions started coming out...

I know they don't mean much...but when two fan bases are accusing each other of being unrealistic about the state of their program...in particular which program is ahead of the other at the time...the only real indication of who's right are the insights of people who aren't connected to either program...

So far every preseason prognosticator has put us ahead of USCjr...yet another nail in the coffin of the USCjr trolls around here

I'll take a top ten ranking in the most improved teams category, although it's not saying too much to be better than last year.

Steele seems to get it closer than a lot of the others. Still, its just opinions and thats why they play the games. Its also why i stopped buying these magazines a long time ago. Now, i might stand around in wal mart and damn near read the whole thing, lol. Beats paying for it.

He bought in to the Ole Miss Hype...I for one aint sold on them, they surprised Florida ,got them in a close game and won it..outside of that and using what they did to another overated Big 12 team in the bowl game Id consider them looking at about 8-4 this coming year.Might be good enough to win the West though, who knows:):)

Their win over florida and the fact they have what looks like a solid qb is the reason for all the ole miss hype. I agree they're a 8-4 type team. I like bama or lsu in the west.

I like your optimism, but 2010 looks to be an even tougher year than this upcoming one, strictly from a talent standpoint.

2010 looks tough because of our QB and Oline situation. Talent will be there, just untested.

Phil Steele: Florida No. 1

Phil Steele's magazine doesn't come out until next month, but Colin Cowherd of ESPN radio got an advance copy and was reading it on the air last Friday. Some tidbits:

Steele's top 11
1. Florida
2. Texas
3. Southern Cal
4. Oklahoma
5. Penn State
6. Ole Miss
7. Notre Dame
8. Alabama
9. California
10. Ohio State
11. Virginia Tech

Cowherd said he agreed with all of the rankings except for 'Bama, which he said was too high.

Steele has Ole Miss winning the SEC West and "Florida barely beating Georgia for the East."

How can ND be in the top 10?

I would agree but take a look at their schedule. What would you put UT's record at after this lineup?

Nevada
Michigan
Mich St
Purdue
Washington
USC
BC
Wash St
Navy
Pitt
UConn
Stanford

10-2.

Wow, that is a weak schedule.
