Phil Steele predicts a 2-6 start for Tennessee

Anyway. Anything from 2-6 to 5-3 is absolutely possible imo. They have to show up and play too. I am THRILLED that the world thinks we can't compete. If DD is half as smart as they say, he's got these 2-6 predictions in the locker room. (Theoretically or otherwise) I know what my opinion going into cromp version3.0 was and I was @ times impressed. The same can happen. We can talk all day about this and that. At the end of that day, the kids who play the hardest, toughest, and most disciplined game win. I need not remind any1 of 2005 and just how wrong everyone can be. I'm not predicting anything, I'm just a fan who wants a reason to believe. Go Hard Vols!!

Am I the only one here that thinks that Tennessee could be the sleeper team of the SEC this fall? The Vols are an unknown quantity that everyone in the media has already written off. I think the low expectations for Tennessee will catch some teams off guard and we'll have a winning season.

No, I think we could be. But I think it requires three ingredients to pull-off:

1. Early momentum (gets real buy-in from players; gets the squad energized)
2. No injury bug
3. Competent QB play

But even in this scenario, 8 - 4 will be a tremendous achievement for this team and staff. This team could play really, really good and still end up 2 - 6.

I think we will squeeze out 1 sec win from a big time school. I know all of the issues we have but this is the sec. It is very possible one of the sec powers will have an off game. I would say UGA will be our best chance. They are unproven as well and by the time we play them we should have grown a lot.

1 and 3 on your list will be dependent on an effective rushing attack.

I believe Poole can be very effective. If BB stays yay he's got an experienced backup.

Toney Williams is about 6 months away from really being healthy. He could wind up playing a huge part if not in 2010 then in 2011

I've not completely given up on Oku, but he needs to get his head in the game. Of course yardage after contact is going to be huge this year, and that ain't his thing.

I don't believe the OL, in the shape it's in, is going to give Oku any room to work.

Poole can lower his head and plow through people.

I'm not really worried about the talent at TB.

2-6 is possible, but so is 8-0.....all I'm saying is anything is possible. That being said I pray we don't start 2-6...I am only expecting about 7 wins this year though

the biggest problem to overcome outside of all of the talent issues is the mental state of the team.

what's the leadership like on a team with three coaches in three years? how invested are the upperclassmen going to be?

most of that squad has experienced very little success. so, this team has to learn how to win.

it's just an uphill climb all the way around.

I fear Chip Kelly more than just about everyone. this guy put up nearly 60pt beatdown on talented USC/pete carroll last year.
traditionally bama and florida game has been close despite talent disparency. we know more about them because we play them all the time. remember bama beat us in 02, 05, and 07 when they were outmatched. I say we have more chance of upsetting ua or uf because in a huge rivalry game, you just never know.

I agree with you that Poole is the right back for this year.

However, as we've seen in the past, you need #3 first and foremost to get that effective rushing attack. Especially with the freshmen O-line. It will be a face palm year if we can't keep defenses honest with a competent passing game. When our two NFL QBs froze, it was just heartbreaking to watch 9 - 10 men stack the line.....

Agreed Gata. Those are all good points. Its up to the young men to decide.

I see a 3-5 start and then winning the last 4(hopefully beating Ole Miss at Knoxville). The Vols could have easily won 9 games last season. 3 games were lost by less than a TD. If the Vols beat UGA and Ole Miss then Vols could go 8-4. Oregon will e tough to beat. Vols will go 2-2 in September.

Being we're all just guessing hear, I think the proof will be in our depth and injury statis.....If we stay healthy and are able to play deep into the fourth quarter with most teams on our schedule we have a chance to win 7 or 8 games, with a little help maybe even 9...now that's summertime post two a days talking but realistically I'm afraid we're staring at a 5-7, 6-6 year....

This team is gonna be like 07. Take some licks, pull some things out of a hat, a few "where did that come from" performances, a few "why did we bother showing up" performances, and ultimately, lose in an underwhelming bowl game against a boring team.

Just cause the 2010 SEC feels an awful lot like the 2007 SEC.

I think Oregon looms huge. If we can pull the upset, we could get some serious momentum through that stretch. I'd say LSU is the next best chance as well.

However, if we do end up 2 - 6 (and it's absolutely possible, even if the team plays well), it will be difficult, IMHO, to make that 4 - 0 run.

Oregon is huge for us next year.

Remember what happened in the mid '80's? We started 0-5 won out and went on a tear the next year. This is a different situation, but if Dooley can hold the team together, we avoid major injuries to key positions and improve through the year this is not an unrealistic scenario and would send us into the signing period with good momentum and set us up nicely for next year.

If we could just get one upset and start 3-5, that would be awesome given the situation.

I just hope we have a "where did they come from" game against Florida and Bama.

I won't know what to do if we beat FL.One of my best buds is a Gata, and he's been gracious as of late. After 4 NC's ,1 Heisman and NBA/NFL rosters filled with Gatas, he's calmed down on me. He might hate me for a month if we upset them

I think we get Florida this year.

have you not just seen the news that tennessee is offering a scholarship to a juco player here at the end of may in the hope that he can play in august?

i don't think some of you understand how big the gap is that needs to be made up.
