Phil, Don't Fulmer It

Roses are red, violets are blue.
It wasn't Fulmer who gave us the "woo".

... or was it?
I hated the woo when that started. As if it was too much to let a millisecond elapse before succumbing to the urge to interject an annoying "woo" in an otherwise fine fight song.

Yeah why would Pruitt want Fulmers advice.

He only won a national championship, multiple SEC championships, won more games then any other UT coach and knows more VFL then anyone.

I mean it’s ridiculous. Much better to ignore him completely, worked great for Dooley and Jones

Why on earth would Fulmer undermine the coach he hired to be successful and get them both fired. You guys drink way too much,

I like the woo. It gives it a push just at the right time.

ah, well some of that i agree with.

but none of that is what you posted.

expectations are not sky high, and nor are we coming off an sec title game appearance, as we were in 2005.

we didn't have a brand new staff coming in to 2005.

we aren't pre season top 5 headed in to 2018.

this season couldn't be more different than what was expected in 2005.

You overanalyze my friend.

Feels like 2005 in that expectations for many aren't likely to be met around here.

For a team coming off a historically bad season with unsettled personnel situations everywhere and little to no depth, this team has a number of challenges to overcome just to hit .500 and a bowl game.

Plenty on here are predicting 8 to 9 wins already.

Yes Phil, please keep your opinions about football to yourself, you obviously know nothing. Just let our 6th choice coordinator who’s never been a head coach before do the job he’s never done before. He obviously doesn’t need you. Smh

He can offer help when asked, but by no means should he stand over him and try to Barry Alvarez it. Fulmer was in this position one time and didn't have close to the resume Pruitt had as an assistant coach.

So it's really the opposite.

Not really. What did you see from 04' that was evident 05' was going to be the disaster it was? Removing hindsight, there wasn't anything.

The predictions in 05 was winning the conference after making the title game the previous year and competing for a NC after winning the east.

Last year was a debacle and predicting 8 wins is not the same.

It wouldn't be the first time Fulmer undermined a head coach. He is just more experienced at it now!

I've looked and looked and can't find any info on this. Could you provide a link for me regarding this? I'd really appreciate it. :hi:

We have some delusional fans that erroneously believe Fulmer is only bad and he will drive the program into the ditch.

You and I remember the 04 season and 05 preseason differently.

People blame Phil for being stagnant when change is what got him fired. Fulmer tried to update the offense and hired a good OC to do the job. Unfortunately the players we had on offense were for a pro style offense. Phil needed a year or two to get the correct players but never got the chance.

After winning the natty, Phil had us convinced we would be winning championships every year. We hit a rough patch and dumped him for a way better younger up and coming coach.

Wait this reminds me of Holly. There are things that I don’t like about Holly. But one of the best coaches of all time Pat backed her, so she must know something. For the time being she is stocking the pond with some great talent. She desires a chance to go fishing.

Holly has not had the talent or team chemistry to win aginst the best. Women’s basket ball has gotten far more competitive than it was. Yes, it is Holly’ fault the talent dropped off, but she has fix it. Let’s give her another year and see what she can do. Or we could just hire Kiffin.

the problem with that is it was a 10 year span of time from winning the conf/natty until he was fired.

not saying he should have been fired sooner/later. just that it wasn't like it was 2 years removed....we were a very competitive team, that by all rights could have competed for at least 2 more sec titles and probably another national title, or two if you go back and look at the 95, 96, 01 seasons.

long story short, by the time he did get fired, it was over, and he most certainly did get time to maintain it.

Holly doesn't have a national title to lean on, and i'm not sure it's worth giving her the same rope, if she doesn't win with the talent she is accumulating...i don't think she should be fired now or anything. but i think that's the path she's on if it doesn't change soon.

Having Holly run the UT women's basketball program after the departure of the legendary Pat Summitt is like having Fredo run the family "business" after the demise of Vito Corleone.

But correcting grammar/spelling is fun.
If it makes me annoying, then at least I'm good for helping to make the board a bit more lively.
And I never said your argument was wrong.
I don't necessarily disagree with your point.
