Phil Bennett endorses Frank Cignetti Jr. for OC job

How many more of these threads are going to pop up? IT is reaching the point that anyone associated with football that has a pulse is in line for the OC job at UT. Another name thrown out with ZERO substance to back up the person as even a candidate. Eventually, one of these talking heads is going to be able to claim they knew it all along, because everyone on planet earth will have been mentioned.

"developed his play-calling around the players he had"........I 100% agree with this.

This whole conversation will be over in a day or so with any luck, and I cant wait for that. This had gotten so old, and highlighted a problem with our administration and their ability to be decisive about hiring for key coaching positions. Makes our program look sloppy TBH. I know that there are some schools of thought that this is to keep the attention on recruiting as the priority, but it still makes us look silly.

I’m not worried about it until they botch it. Could be a college coach in a bowl or playoff. Could be an NFL guy.
I'm definitely thinking it's one of these two. We've not heard about "others" coming in for interviews in a few weeks, so, at least to me, logically, if there's no new candidates, and read what Matthews said, who is close to Fulmer, means we've got someone on the hook and think it means we're just waiting for someone's season to end. At least that's my logic I'm going with until they botch it., like Jack Burton says.

Well said and good logic... I don't even know why but I was pissed, then confused, then figured it was an on staff hire, now I am just reserved to waiting and anticipating either a botch or great hire...

Second reference to this guy I’ve seen in two days. Family connections to Pruitt and pro style currently in the NFL. Works with Packer QBs but NOT Rodgers. No indicator of past recruiting prowess. Not seeing it, so he’s prolly the guy.

Perhaps I am mistaken but Pruitt already was asked and explicitly stated that he was NOT looking to hire internally for this position. Not to say he might decide that in the end but Pruitt generally says what he means so I doubt it.

I remember seeing that but that was before we have seemingly struck out on all interviews it seems. May be a playoff, bowl or NFL guy we are waiting on but I think the waiting til after ESD lends itself to suggesting it is a hire that could have adversely affected guys decisions (perhaps on staff promotion)... but that is jmo, but again I'm going to sit back, enjoy the Holidays and our amazing BasketVols and see what comes about!

He's got zero ties to the south....not that that is a bad thing. It will add another dimension to recruiting the northeast.

He could possibly be an improvement on Helton 🙄🙄

89th ranked total offense in 2011 as OC at Rutgers.

"Rousing" success as an OC with the 32nd ranked NFL offense in 2015 for the STL Rams.

Never had a job in the southeast so I am sure he has plenty of recruiting ties down here.

Sounds like a perfect fit for this program. Sign him up for 1.5 million so they can buy him out in 2 years.

. Makes VOLNATION look sIlly TBH...

There, I fixed your post.

Nothing worse than a bunch of message board dipsticks griping and complaining about how much time it's taking to hire an OC....when so many on here know so very little about what's really going on behind the scenes....just like when Fulmer hired CJP.

I'm sure when the new OC is announced that there will be no less than 10 threads started saying what a stupid hire it was.

If only I could like this post a thousand times. It never ceases to amaze me how much people, who haven’t the SLIGHTEST idea about running a major college program, know about what it takes to run a major college program and how long things should take.
