PFF: Dobbs 6th Best QB At Running In The Country

Read the 2nd sentence in that exchange, you know, the one that says it is 2 different games.

My point to that was you cannot say that the pro level dictates who was better, it doesn't work that way.

BTW, you never took me up on my CJ Beathard v Dobbs in the NFL wager, we can make it simple, like you have to change your avatar to lets say Donald Trump or something.

What are you talking about?

Same exact opponents, same exact personnel, same exact defenses.......waayyyyyyy more production for Watson.

Also, are you telling us that when Butch let Dobbs throw it 31 times vs Oklahoma and 36 times vs Arky and 34 times vs SCar, that he didn't give Dobbs control of the offense? Watson gets more opportunities to throw the ball because he's simply better at, it's really that simple.

Also, since he is better at it, they get more 1st downs, hence more plays. That is why Clemson threw for over 4000 and rushed for over 2500

A reply to you on the Sporting News College QB thread, my reply to your post:

I was pulling for this team when you were a penny in your daddy's coin purse. Never said that I did not want athletic QB's, but, first and foremost they should be proficient passers. I would guarantee that Butch would tell you the same thing. And whoever stated that Dobbs was behind a young man who ultimately transferred, hit it spot on. I believe a couple of posters have forgotten that point.

Look, I like Dobbs, but, he has to drastically improve is passing to be considered any higher than around top 7-8 in the country.

I would like to make a friendly wager that CJ Beathard has a longer NFL career than Dobbs. Wanna bet?

Fine.

Although I doubt either of us will be around to gloat about it.

I'm not that old, hope I'm around in 12-15 years. Might be retired down in Destin by then, but, still around. Hope you are also, my bet is that you are a young man.

this is your problem. You only see what's on a stat sheet. You can't see whats on tape. There is no gap between dobbs and watson when it comes to talent.

Dobbs is as talented if not moreso than watson.

There have been disparate results so far in terms of box score stats because watson plays in a more friendly scheme. His coach allows him to throw a lot more. He got to run more. The offense was totally built on him. Dobbs on the other hand has 2 5* rbs he's handing it off to 60+% of the time. And he has an ultra conservative coach who will only let him loose if we're down 2+ tds.

In the end talent always wins out. And dobbs will prove he's as good if not better than watson.

Josh will have a monster 2016.

😹😹😂😂

I promise you I love Dobbs as much as any Vol fan out there (aside for you it would seem). But you see only what you want to see when it comes to him. There is always an excuse from you when it comes to discussing him and someone gives valid reason why he may struggle in some areas or in this case comparing him to another player. You see him through the most orange tinted glasses on the planet. Stats are kept up with for a reason so you can't throw them out the window and say look at the tape. Yeah stats don't tell the whole story but they do tell part of it. And you can't blame Dobbs lack of stellar passing numbers based on scheme and personnel alone. I can assure you our coaches taylor the scheme to fit Josh the best that they can. If he was a better down field passer they would be doing it more often but the FACT is josh struggles in that area (at least up until now).

One thing I do like about Astro Dobbs is that when he runs, he is looking to score regardless of where he is on the field. He isn't just concerned with moving the chains. He wants to end up in the checkerboards. Many qbs will just try to get what they easily can and go down or out of bounds.

As far as that list is concerned, who cares. He can be the worst running qb in the nation. As long as he wins the games, I doubt many will care.

Wait a minute. So you don't think actual games vs not one, not two, but three like opponents has no merit? Come on Dodge.

And for the record, according to Sports Reference, in 2015 Tennessee was #44 in strength of schedule.....Clemson was #10.

Teamrankings.com had Tennessee's SOS at #12 and Clemson at #4.

Fair enough. I guess what I am trying to say is that if all things (conference, O-line, coaches, etc, etc) were equal Watson would prob be marginally better than Dobbs as a runner, but there wouldn't be a huge difference between the two. Now throwing the football is a whole different story.
