Peyton's Legacy

How do you know Peyton signed off on Schiano? How do you know Peyton said no on Tee?
Let's let people speak for themselves, and stop holding people accountable for what is "reported"!
Erm I hope he said no to Tee. Hiring martin right now at this point in his career to come into this mess is insane and would be a bad move by both him and UT.

He has no head coaching experience. None, 0, NADA. You don't walk in to the hot mess that is UT currently and expect a guy to turn it around. This would be compounded by t6he Fact he is Tee Martin. The guy that lead us to our last Natty the last QB of the glory years before the wheels fell off. It similar to why Scott Frost probably wont take the Nebraska job. Same situation except that Frost has experience as a HC and did it right start at a smaller program and earn your lumps there.

Tee would get maybe a grace period of one season. If lucky. There is no way in the world he could turn this around in less than 3 the problems are currently too deep. Plus he has recent negative history with the fanbase and trust me the second he loses a game it will all boil up to the top.

Tee is not a fool. He wont come.

The worst thing about Peyton is that he has the same number of rings as Eli, thus eliminating him from any GOAT discussion

Has this coaching search changed your view of Peyton Manning? First he approves the hire of Schiano then he is shooting down making any contact with Tee Martin.

IMO he is ruining his legacy the longer this goes on.

I lost some love for Peyton after I heard he was all in for Currie for AD....and now that I’ve seen who Currie is up close, I’ve lost even more respect for Peyton. Then throw in his Schiano endorsement. And now I read where he has some animus towards Tee and either won’t “sign off” on him to be interviewed or is just full on blackballing him.

Starting to strongly believe Peyton oughtta stick to selling pizza and insurance and get the hell away from Tennessee football in any official capacity. Maybe the whole NFL GM/running a football team just ain’t for Peyton.

Exactly. Can anyone provide a direct quote from Peyton that corroborates any of that?

Appreciate him for what he has done. Not for what he is doing. He's human and will make mistakes especially in judging who is good for UT.

I seriously doubt that Peyton "pushed" Schiano. After publicly supporting Butch until the time for decision, I suspect that Peyton's voice on the next hire was low and that his opinion was discounted. As for Tee, we do not know what Peyton thinks, but many are cautious about elevating a coach with Tee's experience to HC at a major program. What other HC offers does Tee have?

Have you heard either of these statements from Peyton's mouth?? If not, it's called hearsay. I haven't, & I don't believe a word coming from the administration or the media in Knoxville.

Hearsay only applies in courtrooms. Perception is reality.

Peyton was arguably the GOAT QB and an amazing ambassador for UT football.

He is also in bed with this numbnuts:

john-schnatter-b522b56b36c082cd.jpg

A CEO with a storied disregard for the lower-level employees that ply his brand.

So, Peyton's business acumen is certainly not infallible. He isn't hurting his legacy...yet.

Peyton's a Haslam puppet. Period. It's sad to see for sure. I wouldn't be surprised to see Peyton get involved with the Browns after this.

The idea that a man with Peyton's accomplishments needs to serve as another man's puppet is nothing short of stupid.

So Tennessee should hire they guy Ga Southern just passed on?

No way any coordinator who's never been a head college or pro coach should be considered for this job right now. There is too much heavy lifting for OJT right now. Hiring Fulmer after majors made sense for a number of reasons but not after the worst 10 yr run in the programs history.

Peyton is right not to endorse Tee and frankly is doing Tee a favor. Tees career will crash if he took this job right now.

Peyton loves the city and the Vols. If he goes along with any decisions made it was done because he thinks its good for the team. Could he be wrong??? Yes, because he is human. He would never turn his back on us or wish bad on us. But he may be wrong from time to time. With all that said we still don't have concrete evidence that he pushed for GS to be hired or for Tee not to be. Let's focus on important things and please don't aim our guns at the greatest thing to come out of this program in many decades.

Here you go ... opps, wait, what?

In 2012, when Schiano was coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Bucs faced Manning’s younger brother, Eli, with Eli operating as the New York Giants’ quarterback. Late during the eventual Giants win, Schiano ordered Bucs players to attack the offensive line aggressively as New York players tried to kill the clock by kneeling down.

When Schiano ordered the Bucs to pull a similar maneuver against Eli’s big brother, Peyton, in the final stages of a 31-23 defeat to the Denver Broncos last December, the future Hall of Fame quarterback was not pleased.

“Peyton cussed him out,” recalls former Bucs defensive end Michael Bennett, who signed with the Seattle Seahawks as a free agent last March. “And I ain’t never heard Peyton cuss.”
Former Tennessee star Peyton Manning has 'cussed out' Greg Schiano

Until I hear it from PM's mouth, I will not believe that he supported Schiano.

This thread should be deleted.

I can't believe some are going after Peyton. All that he's done for TN and some think he supported a bad hire and they're ready to run him out of town. This is ridiculous.

I wouldn't blame Peyton if he decided to take his support to Ole Miss.

Now can everybody see why he would never in a million years take any position at TN.

Peyton is a great QB and football mind.

He's done many good things for UT and we all appreciate that.

He's been a good spokesman for UT so far and we appreciate that as well.

He's a man just like all others and he's just as able to make a mistake just like any of us.

I will NOT believe 2nd hand accusations about Peyton.

I want verified proof of any accusations.

Having said all of that I do seriously suspect that Peyton is far too involved with the corrupt, power hungry Haslam family and he needs to distance himself away from them quickly especially after what's now coming out in court about the Haslam family.

I'll read any PROOF against Peyton but take anything else and keep it to yourselves.

VFL...GBO!!!

Weren't there reports from VFL's that said Peyton called them to pump them up about the Schiano hire?

It's been a wild 3 days, so maybe I'm thinking of something that happened on Earth 2 in the parallel dimension.
