Peyton vs Berry??

I remember sitting in a restaurant when Peyton announced he was coming back. This was in Nashville btw. The whole place erupted in cheers and high fives from total strangers. Grown men were hugging each other. The owner came running out of the back with a bottle of Jack Daniels being followed by 3 girls with shot glasses. He poured everyone in the place a shot of Jack on the house and we all toasted Peyton's return.

I love Eric Berry but you don't see anything near that type of reaction with him or anyone else. Short of the return of Elvis Presley, this state will never be more in awe than it was that day. Neither have we all felt more jilted than when the media robbed Peyton for the Heistman. I almost cried that day.

With a very few exceptions, I either respect someone or I don't. Based on what I know at the moment about each, I respect them equally regarding who they are, their character and what they're doing or have done. I like Peyton better as a player. Probably because of the position he plays and the exposure.

That brought goosebumps. I was at work and the whole facility erupted in cheers. Even had it on TV. Few ballplayers out there conduct themselves in a manner for 4 years that will bring this kind of reaction.I mean women were crying and guys were hugging... it was special. Most of those people don't know who EB is. I really don't know why you want to keep comparing them because it isn't even close enough to compare. Go do some digging and find out what Peyton's yearss were like. He was on Letterman for goodness sake.

I guess " respect " was the wrong term, I should have asked for favorite vol. I like both about the same, but for those who choose Peyton because he came back his senior year, I ask you this.... If Peyton had to go through all that EB went through would he have come back?? I dont think so. Peyton also had the luxury not to need the money.

It's two totally different eras. As fans back then we were constantly having to listen to how Manning could not win the big game. He never beat Florida, which is hard to do when the defense is letting Spurriers offense hang 30 plus on us. Most of his interceptions were off the hands of his receivers, not including all the drops. We were winning 10 games a year, only to be pre season ranked lower than we should have.

There is honestly not much difference between the two in my mind, but manning played the more important position that directly affected the outcome of the game, and was screwed on the heisman. I really don't think Berry will have as much a draw to players commiting to play here as Manning did. Just my opinion.

i was in college at MTSU and our teacher let us out of class early to go watch the Peyton announcement in the student center. the KUC lounge at MTSU 200 miles way was PACKED, standing room only. usually that room was empty

Berry and Peyton... dang the are both great.. die hard fan for life. if I was to pick one though Id go with Berry...

I would have to say Peyton. During that time fans were still stinging from Heath Shuler leaving early. They felt that HS leaving early cost Tennessee their first Heisman winner and a shot at the NC. It did not help the sting when Jerry Colquitt got hurt in the first game the next season. Peyton deciding to stay wiped away all of those feelings. I personally think that Peyton's legacy was sealed as soon as he decided to stay.

Yep, when Manning made his morning speech about staying for his senior year all the hair on the back of my neck stood up! My greatest non-season day as a Vol fan.

I can't chose between either one of them but I think Peyton's time here evokes stronger emotion. I still remember back in 97 when Peyton threw for over 500 yards against Kentucky and the sportscasters on ESPN that evening spent almost the entire broadcast salivating about how Woodson intercepted a pass against Ohio State.

And I got out of my 7th grade geometry class to watch Peyton announcing his return for his senior year.

The media liked to blame Peyton Manning for losses to Florida. Even to this day, you hear how he was "0-4 vs. Florida," even though: 1) he didn't start against Florida in 1994 (a future Colorado Rockies first baseman did); and 2) Peyton Manning wasn't the reason we allowed 130 points in the three games he actually did start against them.

I never cared for the Peyton Manning hype, and it said a lot that we won the national championship the very next year, when the coaching staff remembered there were other ways to win games besides the quarterback throwing for 370 yards. But Peyton Manning didn't cause us to lose to Florida, and anyone with half an ounce of sense knew that then and knows it now.

both are AWESOME role models and everything a Tennessee Volunteer should stand for..neither beat Florida. Both made it to the SEC championship while Peyton won one.Berry almost broke INT return yds. record. Both are truely class acts..that being said...Peyton. :)

another thing to consider which a lot wont be honest about :

if peyton had left after his junior year to go to the jets would the fanbase be as lovey dovey and accepting as they are for eric? not a chance. be honest.

the qb will always get more love and more hate
