Peyton not going to bat for Tee????

we discussed some of this last night,
just throwing some of it back out there this morning.....
agree. it's a risk. you don't hire Tee and then 3 years later fire him because he's not good enough.

cause, of course he's not. he wasn't when you hired him, and you know when you do that, you're more or less taking on a project.

a tee martin hire is a test of patience for all involved....and it has to be that way. otherwise, don't even dip your toes in that pool. tee would not show up and win the division in a couple years like Smart has.

you hire tee, you have to almost be willing to give it at least 5-6 years before you even consider firing him. and you better be ready to pony up the resources to get him a freaking GREAT staff.

i'll be honest, all of what i posted is really the only reason i'd be against hiring him right now. i think it would be a set up for failure.

i think after a couple/three years of more of the same on the field, we'd turn on him, and it could wind up being a situation where we're firing another guy that has a street named after him outside the stadium.

i feel like a letter would have to be sent to all the fans, alumni, season ticket holders etc...like they do for your kids base ball league....

"please do not boo Tee, he's young and still learning. we know this is a work in progress, and it will make the learning environment much better if he is allowed to do it w/out increasing pressure and negativity from the fans at the stadium, on local radio callin shows, message boards and other social media. ":)

we aren't that patient, not even for Tee Martin....support early would be key, and he absolutely has to have the resources to go get the absolute best staff. like enough money to go get Sam Pittman away from GA, or Steele away from auburn, or Eddie Gran from KY ...retain Gillespie, or go get Jay Grahm from FSU....etc....you get the idea.

Tee still has to coach the PAC12 championship. We can't really move on him until after Saturday. Would prefer someone with success as a HC but most of those are off the table at this point.

We would need to be patient for 4-5 years while he figured things out.

The guy is nominated for the Broyles award. Why would USC want to run him out? I've got questions about whether he would make a good HC, but this makes no sense.

Because some of our fan base is dumb enough to believe anything to fit their agenda and will push it regardless.

Just look at the Schiano mess. Now I supported the protest and thought he was a terrible hire. I didn’t want him also because he was at Penn State when that occurred and I don’t want anyone from that era associated.

However- a third hand account of what he may have seen at Penn State that everyone involved said was false- and we paint “pedo enabler” on the rock? That’s not right. I didn’t want anyone associated with Penn State during those years associated with Tennessee, but there is no evidence whatsoever that he “covered up child rape,” which is the one label that may be worse than accusing someone of murder.

People take a report and spread it, make it viral and then the idea takes off.

Tennessee is the Jerry Springer show of college sports........

NO 2nd yr coordinator should be considered for this job over men who have multiple years as head coach and extensive experience as coordinators on the D1 level. You may not like them but their experience far exceeds Tee's at this time. No comparison but keep your whining and Tee wont even come here.

Tee is not the right guy. USC is trying to run him out. He is just not the guy. Get on with it.

While Tee may not be that deep in experience, he still has the tools to recruit and develop talent. It would be up to him to surround himself with quality assistants and support staff. If he was given a blank check to hire his staff, I would have no problem with him as coach.

It is very sad that Peyton, if true, is against this hire.

Especially given the fact that Peyton signed off and pushed Butch, okayed Schiano, and struck out on Gundy.

People are looking out for Tee because they don’t want a legend to fail?

Come on...

We fired arguably the most legendary Vol ever before the Shuler/Manning/Martin years and he still is beloved and loves the university. Fulmer freaking works for the university.

If he fails? He fails but you can’t argue that Dave freaking Doeren has a better chance of getting us to 10 wins anymore than Tee.

To be successful, you can’t be afraid of failure. You have to take risks sometimes, and right now, you gotta take it.

Philip Fulmer had two years experience as an OC and we hired him.

yeah, but he had nearly 20 years of coaching experience by then, and he was already on the staff at TN for several years.

not exactly apples/apples. but i get what you're saying.

I don't think Tee would be in a position to succeed if given the position today. Tennessee needs to hire someone who has experience rebuilding a program. I would hate to see Tee come here and fail. I think the next call should be to Jeff Brohm. He wasn't at the top of my list but he's probably the best of who's remaining on the list, and he has a chance to do well here.

even if they are terrible coaches? GTFOH, that is dumb...

How can Peyton not go to bat for Tee when so many other VFL players are doing so?

Guys,
After today's Gundy debacle, for the second time, truly saddens me.

I would have got the deal done with Tee and re-united the fan base unless Gundy was already a done deal.

I truly don't understand why Peyton still refuses to go to bat for Tee on the search committee.

Tee has been true champion in everything that he's done.

Clemson's HC coach was a coordinator and so was Fulmer.

Somebody else is going to give Tee a shot and we're already at the bottom of the SEC.

I'd he honored to bring Tee home as the Vols next head coach.

Does Peyton have bad blood towards Tee??? and Peyton helped bring Butch into the fold.

Much as I do like Peyton, what can you expect when it comes to Tee? Peyton hangs with Trump and Trump is. . . .

Frankly, I'm not so hot about Tee myself. At this point, I'd go to him if the Memphis Marvel, the Less Mess, or [gulp-whine-snarl-growl] CaliFlorida Kitty all turned us down.

Right now there are TWO coaches that said they would take this job, Kiffin and Miles. Some people had better swallow some pride and get on the phone.

I do not think Peyton is against Tee.
He has not said anything against it. They are pursuing options. Tee will probably be an option too.
If Peyton wants to coach then let him coach, I don't even care if he has "experience". He is masterful in scheme and an absolute football junkie. Knows every play in history probably.
I know he will not come, not yet anyway. Tee will get a phone call, just chill out and don't accuse Peyton of it until you have proof.

No and no

Miles had Chavis. His D did everything. Worst offense in the SEC for years. QB development is laughable.

Also, he got lucky on some crazy risk calls that will no doubt bite us in the azz if he does that here!

Also, LSU's talent is unreal and they are loyal maybe like no other state. He had a leg up there, won't be the same here. DOn't want him.

Kiffin, I don't care if he can coach. To bring him on board if way more crazy than asking for Gruden.

If Tee would have accepted when we offered the OC he would be the Head Coach today in Knoxville.

Am I wrong?

He is my top 3-4.

Like Frost better (Nebraska obviously)
Like Norvell better
Like Patterson better
Like Peterson better.

Then bring on T.

do you still believe any of those guys would even consider coming here? seriously.

Yea. Because that never happened.

What are you talking about? Tee was not offered a position in Knoxville a mere few years ago?
Did he not travel to Knoxville with the entourage to interview only to head back to USC with a raise?
