we discussed some of this last night,
just throwing some of it back out there this morning.....
just throwing some of it back out there this morning.....
agree. it's a risk. you don't hire Tee and then 3 years later fire him because he's not good enough.
cause, of course he's not. he wasn't when you hired him, and you know when you do that, you're more or less taking on a project.
a tee martin hire is a test of patience for all involved....and it has to be that way. otherwise, don't even dip your toes in that pool. tee would not show up and win the division in a couple years like Smart has.
you hire tee, you have to almost be willing to give it at least 5-6 years before you even consider firing him. and you better be ready to pony up the resources to get him a freaking GREAT staff.
i'll be honest, all of what i posted is really the only reason i'd be against hiring him right now. i think it would be a set up for failure.
i think after a couple/three years of more of the same on the field, we'd turn on him, and it could wind up being a situation where we're firing another guy that has a street named after him outside the stadium.
i feel like a letter would have to be sent to all the fans, alumni, season ticket holders etc...like they do for your kids base ball league....
"please do not boo Tee, he's young and still learning. we know this is a work in progress, and it will make the learning environment much better if he is allowed to do it w/out increasing pressure and negativity from the fans at the stadium, on local radio callin shows, message boards and other social media. "
we aren't that patient, not even for Tee Martin....support early would be key, and he absolutely has to have the resources to go get the absolute best staff. like enough money to go get Sam Pittman away from GA, or Steele away from auburn, or Eddie Gran from KY ...retain Gillespie, or go get Jay Grahm from FSU....etc....you get the idea.
