Peyton Manning's First Snaps

Yep. he was lighting it up in fall practice. Remember it well. Jerry Colquitt. Sometimes, Life just isn't fair.
And he actually outplayed Shuler in fall camp in 1992, but Shuler played better in the games, so he won the job.

So he was good enough to almost beat out an eventual Heisman runner up. You knew that 2 years later as a RSSr., he’d have been even better. I believe he was a 6th round draft pick In spite of the injury, which tells you how good he could have been.

Watching Colquitt receive the ball from the center (3:57 mark), makes me wonder if Peyton ever dropped back that slowly during practice. Hard to imagine that he wouldn't have, but also hard to imagine that he didn't treat every rep as gametime.

I was there and watched Colquitt get injured. Even though it was a horrible and unfair outcome for him, we had so many QBs with great potential that it felt exciting to get to see what the others could do.

If I remember correctly, we had a very talented team in 94 but unfortunately we had to insert freshman QBs early on. By the end of the year Peyton was clicking but by then the damage was done. I really think if Colquitt play the whole year we would have been real good. UCLA, MSU and even Bama would have been wins with an experienced QB. Florida would have at least been more competitive

I was at the 94 UCLA game. Saw is first snap there. Great experience. Sad for Jerry but seeing 4 QB’s in one game was crazy. Swann interviewed the Mannings 2 rows behind me.
