Peyton Manning to make acting debut on 'Modern Family'

Probably should look at the ratings before you say this, because if you had, you'd know it's not tanking.

Tanking is a strong word, but the ratings are dropping off. I enjoy the show, and it pains me to even remotely agree with fade, but it is a thing.

I don't think it's a "gimmick" however.

The fact that Manning is making a cameo means the show is tanking.

Modern Family is the highest rated scripted show on ABC and has been for quite a while. That is not bad for a show that is in it's 8th season. They certainly don't need to cast a retired athlete for a 'ratings gimmick'.

It's in its 8th season, and it's still drawing close to 8 million a week, which is basically as much as it did last season. Sure at its peak it was getting 13-14 million but after 8 seasons most shows are already dead or barely hanging on. I think it's ratings dropoff is about as normal as expected, and the show probably isn't going to last much longer than 2 more seasons.

... and I doubt the producers care much about ratings anyway considering how much money they are making in syndication through their contracts with the USA Network and Fox affiliates.

It was hilarious in the first 3 seasons, but it got stale quickly after that for some reason. I gave up after the 5th season, but I'll check out his guest appearance.

Man, I didn't know there was this much hate out there for Modern Family. It an amazing show!

I think it's funny but it's not going to hurt my feelings when it ends. I'm sort of over the network sitcom. This and Big Bang Theory are the only ones I still watch regularly, and Black-ish has been funny when I watch. But most are crap.

It blows my mind that so many people watch the ones on CBS (other than BBT). They are so freakin' bad.

I always like Peyton in funny roles. He seems such a natural at it.

Peyton Manning to Appear on TV Show "Modern Family" | RTI

"The former Vol quarterback and recently retired NFL quarterback is set to appear an on episode of ABC’s “Modern Family.” He will play the role of Coach Gary, a coach hired by Sofia Vergara’s character, Gloria, to replace Ed O’Neill’s character, Jay, as their son’s coach and a handy man."

He will play the role of Coach Gary

Well go ahead and have a Ktown Realtor call PM because this is obviously a precursor to PM returning to his Alma mater as a coach. I mean, could this be any more telegraphed? Hellooooo???

Modern Family isn't what it used to be but I thought it was a decent episode. No laugh out loud moments (or Alex) but it finished with a commercial for "Gary's Gazebo's and Sheds" which I guess is a dig at all of Peyton's work as a pitchman. He did okay.

And the parents of the young girl who plays Lily own the Castle in Gatlinburg, which burned in the fires

Don't forget the bird baths.

I missed the scene where he threw a tight spiral into Sophia Vergara's face. I was really hoping to see that scene.
