True Story.

My wife saw where it was announced that he would be on the ballot and that the announcement would be made on Saturday. I thought to myself that he was a sure first ballot HOF'er. I saw the story again late last night and looked on ESPN. There was NO MENTION of Peyton. The story said the HOF class was headed by Charles Woodson, and listed all that were elected, but no Peyton. WTH?

When I saw this thread this morning I went straight to ESPN and their story has been updated now, but not last night. I hate ESPN.
I also noticed that Manning was absent on their “Breaking News” crawler that identified the new HOFers.

That’s because he hadn’t been announced yet. He was the last addition to the class and once he was announced he became the headliner on ESPN and ESPN.com.

They were announcing inductees about every 20 minutes for 2 hours. They held his selection until toward the end of the show. He wasn’t “official” until close to 11.

And this is a bit off topic. Drew Pearson gets in the HOF with 489 receptions 7,822 yards and 48 TDs. But there is always a benefit of playing for the Cowboys.

Compare that to these guys that are not in the HOF:

Harold Jackson 579 Rec 10,372 yards and 76 TD
Wesley Walker 438 Rec 8,306 yards and 71 TD
Mike Quick 363 Rec 6,464 yards and 61 TD
Stanley Morgan 557 Rec 10,716 yards 72 TD
Mark Clayton 582 Rec 8,974 yards 84 TD

I know it might seem odd putting Mike Quick in the same category. If not for an injury later in his career he would have put up even better numbers. Plus, him and Walker have two of the best TD per receptions ratios of all time. Amazing that those two caught that many TDs with the amount of receptions they had. And they caught most of them during the 1980s. Harold Jackson was the leading receiver during the 1970s. Him and Stanley Morgan were on the 1979 Patriots. During that season they both had over 1,000 yards receiving and averaged 20 yards per reception that same season. I believe they might be the last duo to accomplish that feat. In my opinion, Morgan is the best former Vol WR to play in the NFL. So I had to include him here.

There are other WRs I did not list who have been overlooked for the HOF. Among them are Sonny Randle, Otis Taylor, Gary Collins and of course Sterling Sharpe. Some will even argue that Gary Clark deserves a spot in the HOF too.

And lets not forget about TE Jerry Smith who should have been in the HOF years ago.
Drew Pearson, that's nuts. Carl Pickens had similar yardage 15 more TDs. Not that I think CP should be HOF, but Pearson definitely should not

Little off subject, but I think it's time for you to change your picture. I don't think we need reminded of Pruitt any longer. Even if it is a cartoon pic.;)

Yup...I hated that gumper but you're right, time to move on.

Please 🙄 someone with 1-3 record vs Manning in AFC title games

LOL way to be selective with your stats there buddy. Brady is 11-6 against Peyton in his career and has surpassed Peyton in just about every conceivable QB stat, including Super Bowl appearances, Super Bowl wins, Super Bowl MVP's, career wins, career passing yards and career TD passes. Completion percentage is about the only stat advantage Peyton has over Brady and it's a razor thin difference. Plus if Brady wins tonight he will join Peyton as the only two QB's to win Super Bowls with 2 different teams.

Look, Peyton is awesome but let's be honest here. Statistically speaking, Tom Brady is the GOAT. Let's just give credit where it's due here.

Thread title mentions Peyton Manning, not Tom Brady. So "here" isn't where your Brady opinion belongs, imo.

I guess you believe Bradshaw and Dilfer are better QBs than Marino or Brees too?

Peyton gets to celebrate by watching the Brady (GOAT) win his 7th super bowl and completely smash the silly myth that he was a “system” QB.
