Peyton Manning says he'd consider coaching QBs at Tennessee


Don't expect to see Peyton Manning following in Jim Harbaugh's footsteps as the head coach at his alma mater.

The former Tennessee quarterback said Thursday he has no interest in ever leading the Vols' program — though he would have to listen if they called and asked him to serve as a position coach.

"Quarterbacks coach, I would do at Tennessee. Head coach? Absolutely not," Manning said in an interview on the "Dan Patrick Show." "People in Tennessee like me right now, Dan — I don’t know why. But you become the head coach and cut that in half right away. ‘Why are you throwing it on 4th and 1? Why did you punt there; you should go for it.’ Cut it in half — it’s like being in politics...

"Quarterbacks coach, you probably could stay under the radar. You get your quarterbacks throwing a lot of completions, you probably could stay in good favor. Maybe if they call, that’d be something."

And what is Peyton--GOAT--going to tell our quarterbacks about running read-option plays?

Peyton can do an outstanding job guiding and mentoring in a variety of areas in and outside of football--but coaching QBs in our offense is not one of them.

Be real. Think. Give it a rest.

He dissected multiple types of defenses better than any other coach. Yet he couldn't Master a new offensive scheme?

Man... I just don't see Butch bringing in someone bigger than him. Wait, what... well, you know what I mean. Highly acclaimed, accomplished, regarded, famous, could run the program, etc.

Butch made it known he has no interest whatsoever in Peyton being on the staff...which was just another example of his brilliance (blue font). This could make Butch a legend. First of all, recruiting would go through the roof. Secondly, we have one of the greatest offensive minds ever coaching the qbs. It'd be a fans dream. But we have an utter Moran for a coach who'd rather fail than get help from someone else.

CBJ ego would never let Peyton in as QB coach no matter if he would be the best or worst at it, Jones will not let anyone in that he would have to look over his shoulder all the time being afraid they were going to take his job no matter that Peyton said he would never Coach here as a HC. CBJ has proved over the last years it is his Team and will be done his way and he will not let anyone in here that wants to change anything. He will hire from within or someone he knows from another school that will kiss his feet and do everything he ask and run everything just like he wants.

Making it clear that he has no interest in pursuing anything over a position coach should calm anyone's fears.

He is the head coach. He is the CEO. He should be able to hire or fire whomever he wants. If it is a bad decision, he is the one that will pay the price. JMO

If this was a legit possibility and Butch didn't at least spin the tires, then he is dumber than I already feared he was.

I never said it was or was not happening. The thread is more about how he said he would coach QBs, yet it hasn't been discussed.

Maybe most think it is not a realistic scenario. I thought it was worth discussing, since the idea came straight from his mouth.

P.S. Don't buy a Rolls-Royce, my last two leaked oil like crazy.
