Peyton = #10 Best College QB of All Time

Danny Wuerffel should be ranked above most on that list. I hate the gators but he was damn good and one tough SOB. I agree Andre Ware should be on it also, he was great. How the crap did Namath make the list, on name alone?? Vinny Testaverde is also rated way to high, I guess they don't remember that Sugar Bowl beating we gave the Number 1 ranked Caine's.

If it hasn't been said, Vince Young is the best college QB of all time. Thats easy.

Vince struggled a lot before his senior year, you cant make that list based on one game alone. If the list were "greatest College QB in one game" he would be high on the list.

I'll always have love for Vince Young at Texas against USC....I bet enough on that game (straight up, I might add) that it paid for my wife's ring. But we're also talking about a two-year starter who really had one terrific year. He's Michael Vick with a national championship.

Flutie....I could take or leave. Take the pass against Miami away (or give it to Bernie Kosar instead) and see if he's still remembered the same way. For that matter, make him 6" taller or make him black and see if he's remembered the same way. To me, he's a shorter version of Major Applewhite.

Maybe it is my age, but I have never heard of Jim Plunkett.

I'm...................I'm shocked. Jim Plunkett lead Stanford to the Rose Bowl, lead the Raiders to a Super Bowl win over the Eagles in Super Bowl XV?(is 15 it)

Regardless, just try and get your hands on some late 70's-early 80's NFL Films footage.

I agree. Watch the film long enough to go, "Wait, WHY is this guy regarded as such a legend?"

Someone's not so high on him, are we? To be honest, I like Plunkett. Is he one of the greats? No. Is he memorable? Yes.

Guys, this is a poll SI is doing. That's not the actual order according to them. Its just a list of the candidates in no particular order for their fan poll.

If everyone knew about his life before he went to Stanford they would be whistling a different tune. Not that that has anything to do with greatness but you would prolly think twice before pointing out that he doesn't belong.

I'm quite familiar with his life before making it to Stanford. The fact that he was able to rise up and overcome is truly a remarkable case study in the human will and spirit.

But my opinion remains the same, mostly since we're talking about on-field performance.

Not to mention Super Bowl XIII, When the Raider destroyed the Redskins. Plunkett didn't always look good, but he got it done.

*says quietly to himself*....Worked 2 jobs while playing football in high school to support both his deaf parents.

Looking at that picture of Vince Young, you'd think he played in the 80's with those uniforms with the giant holes in them.

They were blind; his mother was completely so and his father had very poor vision and was classified as legally blind.

Plunkett also developed a thyroid condition as a freshman that left him in an extremely weakened condition, demanded to stay at quarterback rather than be switched to DE, and passed on a chance to turn pro early because he said he wanted to set a good example for those who looked up to him.

And I believe his jobs were as a bagboy at a grocery store and as a clerk/part-time mechanic at a gas station.

Danny W was amazing. 4 SEC titles, National title and Heisman. And he earned every bit of it. Seriously, how many players can say that period.

IMO he was/is the prototype college QB. I love Peyton but as a college QB, there is no choice. DW wins hands down.

Peyton will end up top 10 in college and the NFL once he retires. Not many will have that reputation or hold the records he will have.

For people who are discrediting Vince Young's play at Texas (he skipped his senior season), I would like to point out that Young led the nation in passing efficiency his junior season. In the game that will be forever remembered for his 200 yards rushing, it should be dually noted that he attempted 40 passes in the Rose Bowl completing 30 of them. If I am building a college football team, and you let me pick any quarterback from that list during his last year in college football, Im picking Young without hesitation. To say that he is "Michael Vick with a national title" is a terrible insult to the man.

Certainly he had a dominant junior season. He had a decent sophomore season, and a fair-to-middling freshman season while splitting time with Chance Mock.

Putting him in the same sentence as Michael Vick (as a college player) is hardly denigrating. Vick's freshman year was almost incomprehensible, and his sophomore year certainly was no slouch. And he did it on two VT teams that were nowhere near as talented as Young's Texas teams.

You are right. After going back and looking at Vick's college stats I found out that he too led the nation in passing efficiency, except it was his freshman season that he did it. I guess that I, just like those that do with Young, have forgotten what Vick did with his arm in college and only remember his highlight reel runs. I apologize.
