FYI....per SI

Football Sports College Football Heisman Trophy College Athletics National Collegiate Athletic Association - SI Vault

Kind of a stupid list. They have him down as 10th and the first SEC QB. If he wasn't cheated the Heisman you got to wonder if he would have been higher. There is a a lot of west coast love to the list too. Stanford apparently has had the two greatest QB's of all time. Maybe it is my age, but I have never heard of Jim Plunkett.

Jim Plunkett was the man.. It's hard to argue with Elway

out of the nine in front of him, who do you realistically see him passing up? Maybe Ward, but the NC helps him more than the Hypesman IMO.

Based on college alone I think Vince Young should be ranked a little higher. Not many QB's could do what he did against USC.

based on accomplishments he should be behind Wuerffel

It's your age. Plunkett was an amazing college and NFL QB. With the possible exception of Charlie Ward, I think Peyton's about right on that list. By the way, to be in the top 10, he is in fantastic company.

What about Flutie? Do you think he was a better QB than Peyton?

I was too young for Flutie, but what I've seen in highlights, I do. He did what he did with Boston College and my constant knock on Peyton is of course big games while here. Flutie came up HUGE in the biggest possible moment he had.

Ive been watching college football religiously for 20 years. Vince Young is the best COLLEGE QB Ive ever seen. What he did for two seasons....and what he did against USC was unmatched. It was the biggest stage...against the best team loaded with NFL talent... with everyone in the stands knowing he was going to do it...and he couldnt be stopped.

Pete Carroll and Lloyd Carr still wake up with nightmares thinking of what Vince did to them in Pasadena......

Flutie was overrated. He was clearly a very good college quarterback, but that's about it. If he hadn't hit the jackpot on the Hail Mary against Miami, nobody outside of Boston would remember his college career. Several QBs are taken in the draft every year who were as good in college as Flutie. He was good -- very good, even -- but talking about him as one of the best college QBs ever is crazy.

But Flutie in his biggest game had the biggest play of the day.

Peyton got trampled against UF and Nebraska.

Fair or not that's what they base it on.

I'm not arguing that Manning should be any higher. I've just never understood Flutie's reputation. I was watching the Hail Mary on TV when it happened, and it was blind freaking luck that the ball ended up in a BC player's hands. Take that pass away and he was basically Jay Cutler. Good career, but hardly legendary.

I agree but that is what he's remembered for. If he wasn't a midget sized QB he wouldn't get the love he gets either

OT but I saw a piece on the NFL network about the NFL's greatest upsets and TR was in there. He played for the Skins as a scab, beat the Cowboys and then went back to jail. People were still talking about what might have been with him after that

Keanu Reeves did a terrible job playing him in the movie :)

If it hasn't been said, Vince Young is the best college QB of all time. Thats easy.

Hardly.

Vince Young was an extremely mediocre QB, but a fantastic playmaker. Only 44 TDs and 28 INTs? Come on. The only good year of football he's managed to have since college was his junior year.

Where is Andre Ware? Didn,t he set almost every single season passing record in '89 not to mention didn't Houston hang 100 on SMU that season. But from what I have seen everybody will be taking a backseat to Sam Bradford 86 TD's with 2 games to go in his soph year. WHOA!!!!(Lee Corso style)

Houston 95 - SMU 21.

That team broke 60 5 times that year...

Oddly, Jack Pardee returned to the NFL the next year where his two biggest stamps on the league are the biggest choke in league history and hiring Jeff Fisher as his DC...who was made head coach 10 games later.

Having said that...Ware was a system QB at the finest...the NFL and David Klingler proved that.
