I imagine folks will paint the rock next. Regardless if it's Pearl or not, I think we all can agree that Martin needs to go. If I had a choice between the two, I'd pick Pearl. It's a shame because i wouldn't have made that pick before this season started. I really, really thought Martin would get it done.

It seems like CBP will want to go somewhere new and start fresh rather than have his own past sucess to live up to here. From an interview earlier this year, CBP said he wanted to build a non-relevant BB program at a football school up to relevance, like he did at TN. Don't know that he will want to come here where TN fans will expect sweet 16 from him each season???

So what is Pearl looking for in a next job?

I asked him.

He answered this way.

"It's going to need to be somebody that has the vision that Tennessee had," Pearl said. "Tennessee had a vision to try to get its men's basketball program to the level of its football program and where Pat Summitt had the women's basketball program. That was Tennessee's vision. They said, 'We're winning in everything else. We want to do it in men's basketball, too.' So that would be the job I'd want -- a job where somebody has that vision. It would almost need to be a school that's won a national championship in football or baseball. Somebody who's done it and wants to try to do it again in men's basketball. And I'm not saying I can win a national championship. I'm not saying that. I'm just saying it would need to be somebody who wants to try to do those things. Let's upgrade the facilities and schedule [national opponents] and engage the fans and be relevant. Just be relevant. That's what we did at Tennessee. I wanted Tennessee to matter to Kentucky fans. I wanted Tennessee to be a game Kentucky fans circled. We did that. And that's the kind of thing I would like to try to do again."

He probably didn't think that Martin was going to crap the bed this year either. It's all coach talk. Any school that brings him in their fan base is going to expect sweet 16's because he's been there before with 2 different teams.

Honest opinion? That entire part you copied sounds to me like he would love to come back to Tennessee. He keeps comparing places to Tennessee, sounds to me like he thinks about as highly as you can of Tennessee.

That was my initial response too. But then i started thinking he may want to somewhere without having to live up to his own legacy. But like the other poster stated - he may not be able to escape high expectations given that he has already taken two different schools to the sweet 16.

I hate to play the "PRO PEARL POSTER" on you but if someone is looking for a job like Tennesseee, lives in Tennessee and is loved in Tennessee than why take another job if Tennessee offers? Sounds like a no brainer to me.

Also, IMHO, If Martin is fired, I believe Pearl will be our next coach. I don't like it but it would make sense from all directions. Hart would come out smelling like a rose and it would increase his popularity a ton. I'd rather hire someone else but if Martin leaves and Pearl is on the short list, I'm okay with it.

If we offer him the job he will take it...why is that not so simple to understand. IMO he wants to make right on what happen. His work is not finished here.

The only problem is if we will offer him the job. Expectations will be high. They always are when we hire a new coach. Bruce Pearl knows the school. I think he is settled in Knoxville and I don't see him going to Alabama. I could see him possibly going to Georgia because of personal reasons.

Will Hart offer and will Cheek or the Board authorize it. It will be a gift to get into the NCAA but that is not an excuse to avoid letting CCM go. Chances are higher that we end up in the NIT and it could easily be a one and done. CCM should have gone to the NCAA his first year but RPI.

This team plays to the level of its opponent and at first we won games now we are just flat out outcoached or induce self inflicted losses on ourselves.

Both Basketball coaches (men and Women) seem like they are spectators versus coaches. Standing around or sitting just watching them. Somebody ought to do them a favor and send them a Hotdog and Coke during the game. They look like they need one.

Out of curiosity why do you prefer someone else? NCAA issues, didn't like Pearl, or think we can hire a better coach?

I heard this morning that Jay Bay on TSR that he has heard through the grape vine that Cheek and Pearl are patching up their bad relationship...usually I would take that as BS but Steven Pearl does work for Jay Bay and that makes a lot of sense....

This is a stupid question and I don't live in Knoxville so I really don't know... But does Pearl's kids still live in Knoxville? (Not talking about Steven)
