Petition to Give Coach Cuonzo Martin a Raise and Contract Extension

Most fans don't call season 1 an underachievement

Most fans called season 2 about what was expected after Maymon went down for the year

Most fans are now saying this season is a success

Most reasonable fans most certainly consider Year 1 as underachieving

BTW I was the 147th person to sign the petition just now.

Obviously neither of us have 'data' to show who would and wouldn't agree with us. But if you think its only a 'vocal minority' then I don't know what else to tell you.

Also, I've never talked 'isht' about our coach. This is the first time I've ever commented on the situation. And all I'm saying is that I don't think he 'deserves' a raise for finally getting his team to play up to their potential after 3 years. That being said I realize he will most likely get one, or an extension, or both because of other factors people have mentioned.

By the way he's already getting a $75,000 bonus for making the Sweet 16.

If he doesn't get a raise we may be looking for a new coach. Is that what everyone wants?

I asked this question. Could that petition have a negative affect on our recruiting?

If you were the parent of a 17-18 year old HS basketball player with D-1 offers, would you want your child playing at a school with this kind of stuff going on? With the national media constantly referencing it on every story about our tourney run.

That is my point. As a parent I would be concern sending my kid there. Todays, society is win at all cost.

That's my point, it could definitely hurt. I think a lot of it depends on what happens after the season. If Hart comes out strong with at least a two year extension and a raise that puts CCM in the top 1/3 of pay for coaches in the conference AND if CCM accepts (my fear is he that he won't), then the damage can be mitigated. Anything less and we could see a really bad recruiting class.

If he gets us to the elite 8 then I'm all for him getting a raise. I'm not for him getting an extension or raise just because IMO he met expectation in the NCAA tournament so far this yr. Jmo obviously. If he got us to the tournament next yr then def give him a raise an an extension because if everyone leave like I expect then I don't really expect to get to the tournament next yr.

I am excited as anyone and the tournament run so far has been special. I respect CM and am happy for him and his success the past few weeks. Does anybody really think all of these "eating crow" and "please forgive us" posts do anything more than make Vol fans look foolish? It really makes us look very fickle. It is quite possible had we not squeezed into the tournament CM would have been fired. He knows it and so do we. As great as this run has been, it's not like it hasn't been done before by many coaches who the next year reverted back to the same ordinary coach they appeared to be before getting off the hot seat. On paper, his record is pretty good. Only fans who have witnessed the full body of work understand why he was on the hot seat. The national media hasn't sit and witnessed what we have first hand. They are looking at highlights and statistics. CM got his team ready for a tournament run and has saved his job. No more, no less. Darren Horn and Frank Martin rode hot teams deep into the tournament once or twice, but how has that turned out for SC? CM has earned another year without a doubt. But for some to say we should be praying he doesn't leave because he is the savior is very premature.

Freak - please move all petition threads into their own "Petitions" forum. That way we can easily ignore 'em.

These danged things are just juvenile and an embarassment.

So he has got an elite 8 team to the sweet 16 and we want him to be our coach forever? This team should be a 3 seed at worst yet we have to play just to make the tourney. Then we beat UMASS and Mercer. After we beat Iowa and Duke got sent packing we were basically given the sweet 16. Who has had an easier road than TN? Take out the Duke upset and everybody would still be crying for Pearl.

So you predicted elite 8 preseason?

And someone already posted the answer to your question, there's about 7-8 teams that have had an easier path than Tennessee.

Where do you people come up with the ridiculous expectations? Elite 8 team? We weren't even ranked. Making the tourney fulfilled expectations. He has already over achieved. Everything else is extra.

No I did not predict an elite 8 season. I knew the team was talented enough to get there but also knew the coaches are not capable. Hopefully I am wrong. I do not see how anybody can find an easier road to the sweet 16 than TN had much less 6 or 7. No number one seed even had an easier road, all 8 and 9 seeds were better than both teams TN played in the tourney. I'll give UCLA and possibly San Diego St. that's it.

So you answered your own question then.
